I always use this as an example. When you have guys that weigh in over 300 pounds and can run 4.6, 4.7 in the 40 thats some ****in athleticism. Just because you have the best athletes in the world doesnt mean its the toughest though. As I said before boxing probably has the best conditioned athletes in the world. That doesnt mean they are the best athletes.

I use to go to a boxing gym during the summers when I was in H.S. and College with a few of my friends just because of the conditioning benefits. I never boxed amatuer but did often spar and did a lot of hvy bag, speed bag, rope work (I loved jumping rope great for conditioning).

Now with that said its different kind of conditioning for boxing and other sports. I wrestled and it is extremely extremely hard because you are never resting due to being in a squat position and constant clinching...etc. But when I hit the bags I would get muscle burn even though I wasn't lung tired but my arms would be burning and I would be arm tired but I wasn't really tired.

I would also contend that pushing a body around as we do in wrestling would also tire out a boxer in a different way than in boxing. Wrestlers have tremendous inner strength even when they dont look ripped or huge. When your constantly throwing and picking up actual bodies your own body developes a strenght that is really visually deceptive.

umm, the problem is ill-posed, since there is no good definition of "best atheles"

I have respect for all athletes no matter what sport. To say boxing is the most strenuous is ignorant. You probably have no idea what basketball players, footballers and other athletes have to go through. Everybody has to excell in their field and strive to be the best so at the end of the day the athletes that are putting their all into their training are all on the same level.
