    NO

Was he a champion? No, acquired a paper title when he beat Judah, a title that was rightfully Baldomir's. So he fought Baldomir and became the real champion.

Now explain to me how they both did the "exact same thing"
Was Margarito Floyd's mandatory?..no But wasn't Floyd offered 8 million for a fight he said would be easy?

    Yes

Did Floyd walk around saying he was the most feared fighter?...no, he was saying he was the "Greatest" and took "big risks"....

The thing is, Floyd was being offered 8 million for a fight against Margarito. With Williams, he's just talking crap through the media and not even making any kind of offer. Yes, he's the mandatory challenger but Margarito 'has' a bigger fight lined up. Just think about it, if you were Margarito wouldn't you fight Cotto instead of Williams? I mean thats the type of fight Margarito has been after for a long time already. Margarito knows Williams is a risk but you guy's act as if he's running away from a great offer from Williams to fight him in his next fight before the Cotto fight. If Williams really wants Margarito then he would have already had his promoter try to make some great offer to him, but if it's just the belt that he wants than why doesn't he just fight for the vacant title if Margarito drops it, instead of bitching all the time.

All this, "manditory" and "he's-got-a-belt" jazz is absolutely ridiculous. ANy boxing fan worth a damn knows that maybe one or two belts really matter and, in the end, fighters THROUGHOUT BOXING HISTORY, will gladly scrap them in favor of a big fight or better payday.

The Margarito/Mayweather/Baldomir deal was initially fishy because Floyd, who has said for a few yrs now belts dont matter to him, took the Baldomir fight for the same cash he was offered to fight Margarito. The Margarito offer was made first, and Floyd held out for Baldomir (prob because of HBO more than ducking).

Margarito is doing the right thing. A big fight against a name opponent is a win-win situation. If he loses, its not to some unknown/up-and-comer, so he doesnt get too tarnished, and he makes a nice payday no matter which way you slice it. And if he wins, he'll be a top dog and could face Williams eventually anyway.

Its ot that hard you pretty much answered your own question and not to mention the fact that should he win a win over Cotto is a lot m ore credible than a win over Williams and brings him one step closer to getting the types of mega fights he is looking for.

I think that is what most people are thinking. The only problem people are having with it is that it isn't good for boxing or the fans, just Margarito. I have no doubt that he should go after his payday. Everybody would do it. But the fact that there is a big challenge out there before that fight makes you wonder if he knows he is going to lose. The justification for Floyd fighting Baldomir was that he was fighting a guy who had proven he could win big fights and was considered the WW Champ, so it was still the biggest fight possible at the time (DLH, Mosley and Hatton all were out of the picture). Margarito on the other hand is avoiding his biggest challenge for his payday. I don't disagree with what he's doing on a personal level (I don't think anyone does) because he's looking out for himself, but he should keep his mouth shut next time.
