Holmes mostly through out his career fought good fighters and MOST of which were Undefeated. He has the highest defense records since Louis and is the only man to stop Ali (Yes we all know he was shot so save it) Holmes beat the hardest puncher in the HW Division Earnie Shavers, and when he was knocked down by him it looked like he nearly died, but nope he got up and won the fight, He, when he was out of his prime years gave a young Ray Mercer his first loss and he fought about 17 Undefeated fighters. I will always have respect for Larry Holmes he was one of the greatests HW's ever, 19 Title defenses, 8 Year Reign, Beat Spinks bot got robbed due to the 49-0 America did'nt want. he was the only guy close to matching Marciano's record but he got robbed, he had one of the best Jabs ever. While coming back from retirement he gave Tyson all he could (when he boxed) for 3 rounds but then got caught and knocked down couples of time till it was over.

The funniest thing is Holmes was still fighting these guys when he was like 48 years old and beating some of them, he got robbed in 2 fights against Nielsen in his hometown and McCall. I have video tapes of Holmes entire career, he was indeed a great fighter, TOP 3 IMO. Holmes fought top quality fighters like
Mercer, Holyfield, Tyson while he was out of his prime years and fought great opposition as well in his prime years Spinks, Ali, Shavers, Norton, Cooney..

Larry Holmes vs ken norton may have been the best heavyweight fight ever, i loved all 15 rounds. Its what i call prizefighting, not crap that you see today with oleg, shannon and others like rahman and peter.
well,,,I thought holmes won the 2nd spinks fight but I had spinks up by a point in the first encounter and holmes did get a gift win over witherspoon. holmes is a top 10 all timer in my opinion but I wouldnt put him any higher than 5 on the list. you have to remember it was a relatively weak division he dominated,,,but he did have excellent skills and tremendous heart. he fought hurt many times in his career

Larry was either 49-1 or 50-0 when he fough tyson, he didnt lose those fights to spinks, its a joke, the politics of this sport is a joke. You want that *** italian to keep his undefeated record, good for him. Larry beat far more ranked contenders than rocky marciano could ever dream of. Larry Holmes at the age of 46-48 was robbed against nielson and arguably beat mccall. Larry Holmes at the age of 43 won 4 rounds out of 12 against holyfield. Hell he didnt even train against tyson, yet he managed to win round 3. Just look at his reflexes and speed, it was clearly gone by the time he fought tyson.

Dempsey, Johnson and Joe Louis dominated weak eras man. They were ahead of thier times but you cant compare thier title runs compared to the guys in the 60s and 70's. Billy conn and john henry lewis were joe's top challengers, they were light heavyweights for gods sakes. Imagine if earnie shavers clocked those two, they would die.
