The real question here should be; Does the WBC have the right to grant Maskaev another optional defense because its a unification bout or should they have to honor the title shot they have allready granted Peter?

Well, you say.. why not grant Peter a title shot to the winner of Maskaev-Klitschko? The problem with this is Sam Peter would have to wait for: 1) Maskaev and Klitschko figh and; 2) then he would have for wait at least another 3 months for the winner of that fight to get ready. Bottonline is he's out for anywhere from 5-8 months depending on circumstances out of his control.
Why should he wait all this time and perhaps lose some of his momentum after his inspiring performance against JT?

My opinion is that the WBC should force Maskaev to face his mandatory since Maskaev has already had an optional defense and that Peter has had to fight 2 eliminator bouts to get his shot.

Man, I'll have to disagree. A fight with Klitschko would be the best thing that could happen for Peter, he could make A LOT more $$$ for fighting a unified HW champ Klitschko than for fighting Maskaev. And that is pretty much guaranteed, since both champs are willing to fight the mandatory (Peter) next, as long as the unification is allowed. Add to that the intrigue of the rematch, Klitschko winning the UD but being knocked down three times in their last fight, Peter improving so much since that fight, Peter destroying the legend, etc., etc., etc., and you have one huge fight in the making there. I think Peter would only benefit from this.

the problem is austin is also the other mandatory so how do we know it will be peter and not austin that gets the winner which would likely be klitschko

Screw paying Don King! Pay off IBF and WBC to "modifiy" the rankings to drop Austin a spot and work a deal with Duva to hold off the Peter fight until september. DKP has been doing dirty tricks like that for years, stiff him with his own tactics.

Oleg is an ethnic Russian born in Kazkhstan and now has a Russian citizenship.

Wladimir has a huge support in Russia, and to Russians he is not a foreigner. He is Ukrainian, and most Russians really like Ukraine and everything Ukrainian. (I am sure one could cite counterexamples, but I know what I say is true in 99% of cases.)

Peter has done way more to deserve a title shot than Maskaev ever did, and now Maskaev is trying to sit on the title and act like he is some sort of champion and doing the division a favour.

Peter did everything that was asked of him, the the winner of Rahman-Maskaev was already ordered to fight an immediate match against Toney, who put his ranking on the line against Peter and lost. Maskaev already lobbied for an exemption on that fight, with the condition that he would gaurantee the winner of Toney/Peter, then the Tony/Peter rematch the next shot.


He should fight Peter and Wlad should fight Austin so that all the mandatories are out of the way and no one is being cheated of their opportunity, and then the unification process can proceed, uninterrupted.
