Marg's justification, I think, is he doesn't want to risk getting injured (or maybe lose) before his big break. This is his shot to get a lot of exposure and he doesn't want to risk messing it up because of an unkown fighter.

If it had to do with his injury, he wouldn't be willing to fight a lesser opponent so that rules that excuse out. And chances are if you know who Margarito is, then you know who Paul Williams is. People here seem to forget that Margarito is not a big name except to boxing fans. And if you're a boxing fan then you probably know who Williams is. The difference in fan base between the two is not that extreme. **** it though, I'd really rather have Cotto bust his ass up. If he fought Williams then there is a good chance we'd never see Margarito-Cotto.

        Didn't understand the bolded part

And its true, if you know one you probably know the other, but I think he wants exposure to masses, not the fans. For example, PBF was saying the Marg fight wasn;t worth it because most people dont know who he is. Same thing, he wants to get seen by the general public.

I'm really not trying to defend him, I think its bull****, not b/c of what he did but b/c hes a hypocrite, but I was just trying to answer the question. I would love to see him get beat by Cotto.
