Questions for Thosw Who Saw Peter-Toney II

I didn't watch this fight because of the sickening feeling both left me with in the first one and didn't see how either could improve upon that miserable fight....obviously, I was wrong; and I am kicking my ass over my boycott.

Now, after reading some write-ups and some posts on the rematch, I am really curious about what happened and want to develope a mental picture of the fight and what needs to be taken away from it. So, if any of you who saw it would be so kind as to answer one or all of the following questions, it would be much appreciated.

    1. How much of it was improved Peter and how much bad Toney?

    2. What, specifically, did Peter do to up his game; how was his technique improved? Did he use the jab more? Was he more focused on landing straight punches as opposed to winging in big shots?

    3. Did Toney look like himself or has age or something else caught up with him?

    4. What was the one feeling you took away from this fight that really stands out in your mind?

    Thank you.

....IMO it was more a case of Peter improving and having a stronger desire to step up his game. Toney didn't look bad really it was just that Peter brought his A game. He landed the jab a ton and shortened up his punches in order to be more accurate. He still threw the looping shots but it was definitely more controlled this time. I now feel that Sam Peter can be the future and possible savior of the heavyweight division. Of course I don't want him to take over until Wlady is gone.

Peter just fought a smart ****ing fight, he fought behind the jab, he moved out of range and covered up well, he just got hit a lot less in general and hit Toney a lot more often, and more cleanly. Peter's ****ing jab makes a sound like a right cross when it connects, it's such a heavy punch, and he doubled and even tirpled it up at times.

I'd say Toney was slightly worse than he was, maybe 5% worse but Peter was just 100% better. Toney really did not fight bad, he landed some vicious punches occasionally thoughout the fight but they did NOTHING and Peter would throw back and land with a hook a half second after taking Toney's best stuff.

Toney just can't hurt Peter period and he has a hard time hitting this new smarter Peter consistently. He would get beaten even worse in a third fight.

Toney was the same,it was just that Peter has improved so much,he actualy threw fast 5 punch combos, and a great jab,he jab'd in threes

Toney looked himself, but he knew deep inside he was losing, but he didnt go 4 a knockout

I feel that it was a closer fight than people are stating. Peter won but it was no shutout. Peter missed 4-5 big punches in a row and then got countered; it didn't hurt much but Toney won rounds with help from his ring generalship. Toney can still win a title but it may be best to retire unless he can get down to a lower weight division, at this age he is going to have too much difficulty against the top heavies.
I also feel bad for Roach, he seems in worse shape.
Peter has improved and appears to be a nice guy who has a chance to unify.

I know a lot of people are harping on how much peter improved his game in this fight and I agree that he did do some things better but in my opinion the big change was mostly that he was just in much better condition in the rematch and it enabled him to be more agressive and his hands were a bit quicker. he has thrown in combinations in early fights and also showed a descent jab in past fights as well but people seem to only remember his first fight with toney and his fight with wlad in which he just couldnt get his jab off due to wlads superiority in that regard and he couldnt get set to throw in combinationa as wlad was moving and jabbing all night

I still have my doubts about Peter. He clearly won the fight but Toney did land some good shots that he probably shouldn't have due to Peter kind of lurching forward with his hands down. Toney obviously couldn't hurt him too much though but it's still not a good sign.

Toney still has excellent head movement, but Peter missed some wild shots that looked really badly aimed and timed. I did like the body work, and the left when he used it, though he was pawing way too much with it to measure for the big right. He threw more combos which is good but they were fairly sloppy.

I like Peter and I know he should be able to beat the slow as **** Oleg easily but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up getting outboxed; assuming the fight takes place that is.

NICE post... Peter is not nearly as bad as some people say... I have the Peter Sykes fight on AVI. (his fight before Wlad) and he sets up power with his Jab that whole fight (all 2 rounds of it) He just looked bad against Wlad due to Wlads superior sklills and height.. And I agreed with the edescion the 1st fight aganst Toney..
