Ufc >>> Boxing???

Well, that's the thing - MMA in the U.S. it's only in its early stages. 13-15 years now? Whereas MMA OUTSIDE the U.S. such as Japan & Korea is quite huge and Brazil and etc. UFC doesn't really have a monopoly on MMA in the U.S. because there are tons of other MMA organizations in the U.S. but it's just the fact that they came first and are the biggest, but now they also own the WEC which is now almost like a feeder organization for them.

It's true that the audience is different, but that's why it'll take some time until people actually understand the whole game. It's still in its infant stages here in the U.S.

But I'd like to disagree that MMA fans don't watch boxing - because everyone in my gym watches boxing since we also practice western boxing. We don't watch EVERY fight but we do watch and study it.

I think both are exciting, I watch both.

It's comparing apples to oranges.

But one can't deny that eventually in a few years these PPV ratings will really say something as to how far MMA has come in the U.S. at least. They have MMA events in Japan selling out football stadium size stadiums.

The UFC took wrestling fans basically. The two are very similar and are shown on the same network.

I have to agree there. A lot of wrestling fans watch UFC.

Essentially the UFC is trying to corner the market in the US. Also isn't that why they dont have Pride vs UFC matches anymore? Because some of the best UFC fighters lost?

I can name about 50 of them but it's pointless because you have no idea who half the fighters are because you are NOT a true boxing fan. You know what you see on HBO and Showtime. I watch boxing from all over the world and follow fighters from every single country. When I hear about a good fight, I track it down and could care less if it's in English or Arabic, as long as it's good.

mate, i dont even have HBO or Showtime, im from Scotland, which means i get whatever **** sky sports gives me on TV, but in that i have all together on tape,dvd and my pc i have over 4000 fights, ive got thousands of fights on tape from all era, ive got my grandfathers fights from years ago, i have every type of fight, from every type of show, i love boxing more than anything man, MMA on the other hand is just a sport i fallow and would like to try after boxing, BUT i like how they do their fights, they put the best against the best, when was the last time you seen the very best against the very best against boxing constantly not jst a fight here and a fight there.

I mean, look what happened in boxing this year : Shannon Briggs got the heavyweight title(one of them) Chris Byrd and Lamon Brewster lost there belts, glassjaw Wladimir got his back from beatin Byrd then acting like he was Ali, a 42 year old man, Virgil Hill won the vacant cruiserweight belt and is fightin a guy he beat in 1996 in his next fight,who hasnt fought in 10 years,

Bernard Hopkins makes a fool of Tarver the man who made a fool of Jones?!

Roy Jones beats another bum off the street and starts calling out everyone again, just like the good old days eh?

Joe Calzaghe FINALLY GETS THE BIG FIGHT HE TALKED ABOUT ****s up jeff lacy, then blows it all, stays in UK and has a crap fight where he couldnt put a combo together.

Lacy looked **** in his fight with Vitali Tsypko, Mikkel and hopefully sets up a fight with Joe

Taylor beats a guy who is 2 weight divisons up from where he should be, and drew with Winky? would someone beat this guy already!!

Winky then got a win over Ike Quartey and thinks he is the answer to all of lifes little boxing questions

The "cash cow" Oscar de la hoya comes back after a 20 month lay off and gets a paper belt against basicly a man thats been reduced to a one punch fighter in Mayorga, and Mosley gets 2 wins over a guy who has basicly no way to defend himself anymore

You've got mr P4P brighting up boxing by taking on Baldomir and beating him , and taking out Zab Juhad, who lost to Baldomir, Cotto moved up to welterweight, looked not bad and picked up another belt he shouldnt have. Ricky Hatton stepped up and looked worst than ever!! Paul Williams looked good in his fights this year..,but is he ready for title shot?

Castillo gives boxing another black eye. and Joel Casamayor ended everyones dreams of seein Carrales getting bigger fights by beating him

Michael Moorer and Evander Holyfield both returned the ring this year, that has to be good for boxing :S

Omar Nino beat Brian Viloria, then fought againt and drew?

Former light flyweight champion, Jorge Arce, moved up in weight and is now the #1 contender for the WBC belt in this weight class.

Israel Vazquez is the king of his division holding the WBC belt.

Here is the biggest problem with the UFC, you dont get your moneys worth. Plain and simple, you put 2 great boxers of equal skill and they will just beat the heck out of eachother for 12 rounds, in the UFC a match usually ends in the first round or drags out for 4 rounds when both fighters are on the ground grappling.

Also I think the best UFC fighters at the longest take maybe 2-3 months off between fights, while some of the best boxers can take as long as they want. UFC keeps its stars constantly in the spotlight which is something Boxing doesnt do.

I cant remeber the last time i seen 2 boxers of equal skill level fight a good 12round fight....its a bad day when someone who has been watching boxing since he was 3 with his dad, now cant remeber last time he saw a fight and went WOW how the **** are these to guys doin this

Not really 12 round fights but Ward vs Gatti where some pretty good fights.
