No way. Mayweather isnt the best fighter in the world in my opinion. the guy in your avatar is. Now if DLH beats Mayweather and Winky Wright then of course. But neither is gonna happen.
No, i dont think so, but Mayweather certainly wouldnt be #1 anymore.
it actually depends. If he knocks mayweather out early, then yes, i would think so. or up there at least. But if he gets a very controversial decision, then no. not at all
If Oscar does beat Mayweather he'll definetly be in position to be #1 but hed have to capitilize on that victory at least once against a big time fighter like Wright.
Come on, no. Mayweather is perhaps the number 1 p4p (i have pac-man @1) but he is a junior-ww. superwelter is 2 much 4 him. It's like Winky Wright fighting @lhw.
Nah, he wouldnt be p4p #1. I do think that he would be in a great position to become recognized as being among the premire p4p fighters. Mayweather would take a serious hit in his rankings in the pound for pound category though.

My question is, how do you ignore the activity of the other fighters on a pound for pound list? Let us say Floyd Mayweather is the pound for pound champ...and for my purposes Oscar isn't even on the top ten list. I mean, one win over Ricardo Mayorga should not put him there. If it does, well, then if a Vargas-Mayorga fight comes off and Vargas wins will we put him in the top ten then? No, so neither is Oscar.
Oscar beats Floyd. What happens to the status of Winky, Pac-man, Taylor, Hopkins, Barrera- all the guys who remain active and fight tough opponents. Hopkins has done as much as Oscar has recently - more- he took the Light heavyweight champ's title. So, even is Oscar wins, I for one, will not put him up at the top spot. I'd move Pac up there, probably boost Winky and let Floyd slide a bit.
Look at the other sports- basketball and football for instance. If you're not even ranked and you beat the #1 ranked team you don't become instantly #1. Your record is taken into account. Yes, it will boost you...but beating the best doesn't always make you the best. There are other deserving people on a 'top ten' list of any kind that need to be taken into account. Call me crazy but my pound for pound list, should Oscar win, would look like this :
1.) Manny Pacquiao
2.) Winky Wright
3.) Floyd Mayweather
4.) Oscar de la Hoya
5.) Bernard Hopkins
Now, I know, this list will probably get me yelled at. Oscar is still below Floyd? Well, yes. He goes from no substantial ranking to 4th. That's huge. I need to take into account what he has done. I know, tradiotonally, beating the pound for pound best would mean..well..he's the new pound for pound best. An Oscar win would have to be analyzed though. Oscar got the fight at his weight- 154. Floyd had never been there. That counts for quite a bit. Also, Oscar will be showing a long bout of inactivity. Nothing for many months, then a whooping of Mayorga- a fighter no where on pound for pound lists- and then another 12 months until he fights Mayweather.
So, for beating Floyd I should put a non-ranked fighter, in pound for pound terms, into the top spot? What about what Manny has done with being active and fighting a dangerous Morales twice? What about Winky taking on the middlweight champion, whom beat Bernard Hopkins twice, and then taking on Ike Quartey- a respected fighter?
Yes, I seem room for debate over my hypothetical list...but surely someone can see my logic. Boxing is quite a bit different than team sports and their rankings...but I refuse to shove Oscar up to top billing for beating Mayweather. Now, if Manny and Winky were to lose their next fights...yes, I'd shove him up. If Oscar was to beat Wright...yes, I'd shove him up. But he won't get to my pound for pound best by beating a fighter who began his reign twenty pounds south of where you fought him.
Also when making pound for pound rankings remember should Oscar win a disputed decision we'd most likely see an immediate rematch.
should have been more options on the poll but if Oscar wins in an impressive fashion I put him # 3 under Wright and mayweather under Oscar. Keyword would be impressive very impressive

since Mayweather is moving up, they will most likely say that Mayweather drops lower and Manny and Wright go to the top then Oscar. But Oscar is going to win.
