I don't know much about him but damn, he lost alot during his career. It wasn't like he lost when he got old, he lost alot during every stage of his career. Why does he get compared with sugar ray, thoughts?

box rec doesnt always tell you everything, fighters who fight alot of fights cant always prepare properly for everyfight

Right , He was fighting every few weeks + a loss didn't matter as much back then as it seems to today . All of that + the fact that often fought way over his normal weight .

I respect the dude, no doubt. However, some cans or b level fighters have actually beat him twice. It seems like his best time frame was 1934-1940, before that he was a can. From 1941-1945, he went 39-8-2 which is decent at best. So realistically he was great for 7 years out of 14.

how long do you expect a fighter of his style to last when fighting the best guys in the world as often as he did?

the guy wasn't a boxer. he was the most relentless pressure fighter of all time. never gave his opponent's an inch.

featherweight champ. lightweight champ. welter champ. AND was probably robbed of the middleweight title when he got a draw against ceferino garcia.

do some research. he's no worse than the third greatest fighter that ever lived.

I have done research and i think sweet pea pernell is better than him. Whitaker's only true loss was against a much bigger fighter like trinidad. Imagine if the judges actually gave whitaker the wins against chavez and ramirez, he would have been top 5 pound for pound easily.
