Most likely to beat Roy Jones Jr?

Liles.
Liles was able to always be competitive with Roy in the amatuers, and had a style that could trouble Roy. I believe in the pros Roy wins the close UD similarly to how he beat Eric Harding. Tough fight. Liles had good height, decent speed, reach, and the southpaw stance.
Other than that I go with Calzaghe due to his workrate combined with speed.Comment

only one on that list is mcclellen....jones in his prime wouldnt be touched benn
calzaghe and nunn would do ok too becuase he a southpaw .. but the only one that could beat roy is mcclellanComment

out of that list probably benn or mcllelan and maybe julian jackson if he cud land that one pick punch
but i rekon a prime roy jones jr could beat all themComment

I think Calzaghe would have seriously troubled Roy. Prime for prime it goes to some very close scorecards.
After Roy's defeats to Tarver and Johnson I think his legacy has been hurt by not fighting any of the fighters on that list. He probab ly would have beaten most of them, but we'll sadly never know.
He'd have been an all time great if he'd have fought and beaten the likes of Nunn, Benn and Michalczewski. Its sad to see him and Calzaghe not living up to their talent.Comment

If were making out none of those of those could beat RJJ, i dont understand what it will take for someone to overtake SRR as the greatest? I am not saying Jones is as good as SRR, but if he had of retired after beating Ruiz, him being better than Robinson would not sound silly.
I dont think Benn is the best person on that list to beat RJJ. If you think Benn could beat RJJ you must seriously rate Benn in the all time. I am a brit but i think Benn was more known for being exciting more than anything. And he did pack a punch, but RJJ took a heavyweights punches so.....and i dont think Benn would have landed enough on RJJ, but RJJ would probably have landed more accurately on Benn and Benn would probably drop at some point near the end, or a landslide points victory.
I think Joe Calzaghe would have the best chance to beat him, or at least as good as anyone on that list of boxers. But as with Joe there are a few people he hasnt faced so........?Comment

Nunn from 88 is a sure bet… (Obviously Jones hadn’t turned pro then, but Prime Vs. Prime, yes)
McClellan to, big physiological thing there as Jones feared Gerald after what happened in the Amateurs
Benn again, Jones always struggled when put under immense pressure…
Eubank, I’m unsure about that one. I do think Chris would make Jr look a fool for the first 5 rounds after that, I don’t know….
Southpaw with immense speen hand and foot, Calzaghe, good bet to.
I think most on that list has a chance bar Collins (Jones via first round knockout) and possibly Michalczewski.Last edited by Liaison; 12-25-2006, 07:01 AM.Comment
