Well, I thought he got a gift against Mayorga with Mayorga being docked 2 points and not getting credit for any knockdowns in the 12th round of the fight that made Cory Spinks a brief star. To me, if a guy is going down to avoid being knocked out, then he should be called for knockdowns. Mayorga would hit Spinks in the arm or over the back and Spinks would go down, but they'd call it a slip. THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED and one was after a God damn BODY SHOT. I thought Mayorga got flat out robbed in that one, so at that point, I still see nothing special about Spinks and certainly didn't see the "boxing exhibition" he supposedly put on Mayorga.

Then there's the first Judah fight, which I scored for Judah 114-112. I believe Lederman had it even, but he also gave Spinks like all the first 4 rounds, which I felt was incorrect. Still, that fight was very close, and Judah getting knocked down in the 11th didn't help his case. I have Spinks losing both of those fights.

Then Judah knocks Spinks out in the rematch, one of my favorite fights just because most people picked Spinks and not only did I call TKO, but also called the round. Judah made me proud that night, but that would be the last time.

The Karmazin fight, I could see Spinks winning a close one or a draw. I believe it was a majority decision, which was a fitting end to that one. So while most people probably disagree, I think Spinks is better at 154 than he was at 147 (based on who was in each division at the time). He beat the man at 154 so Spinks pretty much is the man at 154, though he's probably not the best there. I'd pick De La Hoya to beat him and Mayorga in a rematch.

Well, those are my grievances with the Spinkster.

One thing I believe that he has is an elite ring entrance. I sometimes wonder if doing all those moves on the way to the ring might effect his stamina to some degree? Or his mindset? Thinking about keeping time to dancing versus concentrating on the real task at hand?

Too bad he does not have Spinks Jinx like his uncle. Then I think he would be the best. Ah, well, it's the same as Hearns with Hagler's chin, Whitaker with TNT in his fists, ...

I am a big fan of his, just the same as with his father and uncle. I been fans of them Spinks boxers since I saw them in the Olympics and I never give up on my favorites.

How can he say fighting DLH fighting Mayorga was a joke when Mayorga one of Spinks biggest wins?

kevin cunnigham acts like hes the guy that does the fighting, he is probably the most obnoxious trainer in the game today...

as for spinks, he is only fighting at 154 cause he couldnt beat any of the top-6 guys at 147... cotto, mayweather, margarito, baldomir, williams, judah could all move up to 154 and kick his ass and take his title is he really wants a big name fight and not a bunch of "rodney jones-es"

I wouldn't say he's an elite but he has a style to give any of the elite fighters hell and possibly beat them.

              Is he "elite?"

              Yes.

That's a subjective thing though. He's been world champ.

              He's beaten world champs.

That's elite as far as I know...

              Superstar? Never.

              Star? Sorta.

Cory Spinks and elite should never be in the same sentence.

He is of more historic significance than anything else. Both he, his father, and uncle were world champions. Leon Spinks, Michael Spinks.

Leon and Michael both fought Larry Holmes.
