Well, I thought he got a gift against Mayorga with Mayorga being docked 2 points and not getting credit for any knockdowns in the 12th round of the fight that made Cory Spinks a brief star. To me, if a guy is going down to avoid being knocked out, then he should be called for knockdowns. Mayorga would hit Spinks in the arm or over the back and Spinks would go down, but they'd call it a slip. THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED and one was after a God damn BODY SHOT. I thought Mayorga got flat out robbed in that one, so at that point, I still see nothing special about Spinks and certainly didn't see the "boxing exhibition" he supposedly put on Mayorga.
Then there's the first Judah fight, which I scored for Judah 114-112. I believe Lederman had it even, but he also gave Spinks like all the first 4 rounds, which I felt was incorrect. Still, that fight was very close, and Judah getting knocked down in the 11th didn't help his case. I have Spinks losing both of those fights.
Then Judah knocks Spinks out in the rematch, one of my favorite fights just because most people picked Spinks and not only did I call TKO, but also called the round. Judah made me proud that night, but that would be the last time.
The Karmazin fight, I could see Spinks winning a close one or a draw. I believe it was a majority decision, which was a fitting end to that one. So while most people probably disagree, I think Spinks is better at 154 than he was at 147 (based on who was in each division at the time). He beat the man at 154 so Spinks pretty much is the man at 154, though he's probably not the best there. I'd pick De La Hoya to beat him and Mayorga in a rematch.
Well, those are my grievances with the Spinkster.
