Tarver Not Sure Why De La Hoya Sells

I honestly believe the casual viewer doesn't want to see boxing anymore. They really just want to see two guys beating the hell out of each other relentlessly instead of cherry picking offense and turtle defense. The Mexican style of boxing is the closest thing to the casual viewer's wet dream. If there was a Brawl4All type of sport, it would kill boxing and MMA, as the constant punching would satisfy the average joe's blood lust.

"Today's" viewer seems not to have to much patience...everything is about "Now", "Speed"...It's a shame beacuse everthing is deluted.

The Romans actually became like this with the progression of the games they had...people wanted more violence, faster blood shed, etc.

It's the difference between reading a Novel and watching a movie about the Novel.

More people just want to see the Highlights, nothing else...no build up.

This is also why we are impatient when it comes to war and different than Rome in her prime: If Rome had to stay 11 years to finish something, they would...now, in America, if something goes a few years, people flip out.

Most single woman aren't going to order the fight to watch themself but they might go to a bar or go a party where they're watching it. Or they might ask their husband (or father or son) if they're watching it, which creates some pressure to order it.

My sister in laws do this. And my brothers always root against Delahoya.

If you're going to go that far back to talk about popular boxers then you'd have to include Jack Dempsey, Jess Williard then before Delahoya, Bobby Chacon was very popular, so was Ruben Oliveras and the list goes on. Delahoya is just on the next level because of ppv etc.

Parents imo had a huge part in a kid not taking to boxing then there not being any gyms in some citys. And its been said, you can play football or baseball with your friends but you can't play boxing.

Former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver is doing plenty of media interviews with respect to his role as Mason Dixon in Rocky 6. In a recent conference call with the press, Tarver was asked about the sport of boxing being a very popular theme for movies, and if there is a crossover of new fans as a result. Tarver feels there is, but he only sees Oscar De La Hoya benefiting from the crossover interest. [details]

When it comes to DLH theres just a whole combination of things that come together in a great way. He has the talent, looks, charisma, class. Plus him being Spanish helps He not only attracts casual fans but people (mostly young girls tho lol) that don't even watch boxing. This along with his Olympic gold, the story about his mom, and how he was marketed.

You're right. An episode of the Contender or a Rocky movie shows how the public wants their boxing, a bunch of dramatic highlights.

Im not saying im suprised that DLH gets so many ppv buys, but I am suprised when better fighters are on ppv they have less than half of the buys Oscar does.
