That helped too. A movie-type story where you could root for him.

And as Hoya was doing all of this Tarver was on the pipe so he only has himself to blame . Maybe if he had kept himself straight during those years he would have became the star that he so much wants to be .

First of all, Tarver should not have his name next to Hopkins and Jones.

Secondly, Oscar was marketed well beginning with the Olympics. He also has been in more big fights than anyone else now fighting, and his popularity is cumulative. And he fights with a bit of grace without that detracting from the more crude sense that what he is doing is kicking the **** out of someone. Floyd Mayweather on the other hand just 'outboxes' people which is great for members of boxing boards but doesn't get all the boys over for beers and a Saturday night PPV.

If De La Hoya is the only one benefiting from the popularity of boxing then its De La Hoya that's popular not boxing.

I can tell you why he sales the most ppv its one reason he is a good looking mexican american no other reason he is a B fighter at best if you watch OScars figts he only has spanish people unless he is fighting blacks its no other race of people there a very few blacks and whites when he figths spanish . the reason other fighters dont get those numbers are because boxing is 4th or 5th on the list of sports to watch . I would like to see the ppv numbers broken down by race. Oscar will never have the cross over appeal like Tyson,ALI & Leonard.Ali & Leonard had help they had other fighters that bought drama to thier fights. TYson had the unexpected.Other than the first Mosely fight I cant recall a History making fight from him.

"You know, guys like myself, Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones, Winky Wright and Floyd Mayweather... I mean it seems like we can't crack the 300, 350, close to 400 number when it comes to pay-per-view buys.

              LOL. That's just funny.

Because Tarver as well as every fighter outside RJJ he named isn't really a draw to the general public. Tarver should know that......none of them have crowd pleasing styles, and females aren't lined up to see those guys.

Chicks alone constitute a huge part of Oscar's fan base.

win or loose..you have to admit.. Oscar fights are pretty exiting, Plus he is a nice guy.. I think that has to do a lot with how you sell, is how you market yourself. Like Floyd isn't helping his numbers with his arrogance and his family feuds. Also he is a boxing tactician who doesn't like gettin hit and like to out box his opponents and not stand and trade... I think maybe thats why he doesn't sell as much. But you have to put your face out there and let yourself be seen, do something extraordinary and put yourself out there, If not your not gonna sell. Call out the Pope if you have to u know... lol

dlh's fights are alright. some good ones, some okay ones, some dull ones.

he does a great job marketing himself and saying the "pc" things, except for the rare occasions when he slips.
