Tyson/Ruddock I - did Richard Steele stop it too early?

I say yes, but having seen Razor's eyes after Tyson ****** him innemurable times, I have reservations...

Give me your thoughts on it, folks...

Yeah, Steele blew that one. I think he stopped the fight based more on Mike's reputation than on what transpired just before he waved it off. However, I do think, given where they were in the round, and how good a finisher Mike was, the fight would have come to the same conclusion witin 60 seconds; but there's no way to know for sure.....and it wasn't fair to Ruddock not to give him the benefit of the doubt IMO.

    Welcome, btw.

I think it was a bordeline call. Ruddock was taking some heavy shots, but he did seem alright when he was stopped and then argued with the ref. However, given Tyson's power and Ruddock being partially caught in the ropes, I think it was the right call. If you want to see a bad call, look at the Tyson/Savarese fight. Although Savarese got hit a few times and knocked down, the ref didn't really even give him a chance to even fight back. I thought that call was ridiculous.

Well, the main controversy is that Steele stopped the fight without ever looking at Ruddock. As soon as Mike landed the shot and Ruddock went careening backwards, Steele stepped in and waved his hands. He never saw whether Ruddock went down or whether he went into the ropes, or whether his eyes were glassy or not.....he never even looked at Ruddock.
