    Barrera's Time is Running Out

Over three years and counting. The amount of time that has passed since Marco Antonio Barrera was unexpectedly dominated by Manny Pacquiao on route to being knocked out in eleven rounds.

Barrera was on the receiving end of a beating bad enough to make most writers call for an immediate retirement. They said he turned old overnight. No longer was he thought of as the once great warrior that beat such fighters as Naseem Hamed, Erik Morales and Johnny Tapia.

After the loss to Pacquiao, it appeared as if Barrera was going to call it a career. His pos-fight interview seemed to indicate that he was unsure if he was going to continue to fight. To the surprise of many, he did continue to fight and reclaimed his spot among the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

It wasn't as easy as it sounds.

He came back against Paulie Ayala, stopping him for the first time in his career within ten rounds. An impressive return, but the boxing public was still not fully convinced that Barrera was back in full swing. Ayala was a good fighter, nobody can dispute that fact. But, he was also on the downside of his career and had very little punching power.

Barrera sensed that he would need to do something big in order to prove to the public that he was actually still the same fighter. No better way to make a statement than signing a contract for a trilogy bout with Mexican rival Erik Morales.

At the time, Morales was at the very least considered the third best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. Morales moved up to the super featherweight division and was coming off spectacular performances over Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez, picking up two super featherweight titles in the process. Barrera is a coward plain and simple. If he came back to beat Pacquiao, then I could have nothing but respect for him. But he's just like the Klitschko's, never wanting to redeem losses, and that is simply pathetic. You got guys like Miguel Cotto knocking dudes out just because they beat him in the amateurs (Abdullaev and Pinto), who never even officially beat Cotto for crying out loud. Not in anything that really matters. It's all about your professional career and Barrera's will always have that huge red blip where Pacquiao annihilated him and he did nothing about it but make excuses until retirement. Barrera has been waiting for Pacquiao to get beat and disappear for over three years now. Grow a pair.

Barrera is ******. He waited 3 years to want to want Pac? Big mistake. Pac is stronger and better now than 2003 and now Barrera is old and hasn't fought anybody significant/or any that close to Pac style to get him prepared. Pacquiao TKO1 Barrera rematch.

          Barrera wants the Pac fight.
He has been calling Manny out, but the fight wont happen unless Manny signs with GBP.

I think the fight will eventually get done but lets be honest if Barerra really wanted the fight it would have happened long ago, right?

Now, lets look at it from another angle...GBP's point of view is/was probably this.

                1) They signed Barerra and threw him in against Pac.

                2) They could have gone after an immediate remtach which looked anything but promising or they could get a third fight with Morales, a revunue generator for sure and a match that A) Barerra has a ton of confidence in and B) a match that literally will revitalize his career.

From a promoters point of view Godlen Boy did what any smart business would do they maximized one of their cash cows...the fight with Pac is most likely unavoidable but give GBP some credit for making this fight a fight again (at least on paper) because had this fight of taken place 6 months or a year after the first it would have been a forgone conclusion both in the ring and on paper.

It still may be a forgone conclusion but their are hope for Barerra fans everywhere as of late when a couple of years ago even the Marco diehards had to be scraqtching their heads, isnt this what a good promtion does?

Couple different angles for you to look at here folks.

I dont think Barrera has always wanted the fight, he ducked Pac for a long time.
However, knowing its the end of his career, and knowing he just totally outboxed a powerful puncher in Juarez, Barrera wants this fight now.
