i think that maybe klitschko should just do a "bum of the month" type thing like joe louis did back in the day..... he could dust off all these guys.... gomez, maskaev, valuev, minto, harrison, briggs etc.... just dust off all the loud mouths in a half years time and wait for someone to show something
Gomez Joines the long "I want Klitschko!" line

Once again, some very disappointing and seemingly ignorant responses to a JCG thread. Nothing new of course, very in-depth analysis as usual. ''He got beat by Diaz'', and someone else adding his name to a list of bums. Regarding the McCall win, it was a solid win against an always dangerous McCall. The atomic bull has not lost his right hand and chin.
Gomez has the ability to beat anyone out there, unfortunately, it seems as though only the boxing connoisseurs are aware of just how talented this guy really is, with just a handful of others like myself who thinks he has the ability, which he clearly does.
I find it funny also, how these Wladimir Kiltschko fans make excuses about his losses, but yet take great delight in pointing out Gomez' loss. A case of one rule for one and another rule for another?Comment

Tell me what happend in the Diaz fight. When I was looking over his record, that surprisd me to say the least. Was there something screwy about the stoppage?Comment

Well, I have to stay with my original prognosis. Until he beats a top opponent, he doesn't deserve a shot. Let the titlists unify any more defenses just slow down the progress and I, for one, am sick and tired of not have a World Heavyweight Champion.
Thank you for the info, I sincerely appreciate it.Comment

Paul, I have heard good things about him from a friend of mine who knows him and his trainer and I respect his opinion, value it highly. However, I would like to see this guy for myself before I pass final judgement. You are the second person who's opinion I respect that speaks highly of him; but McCall is old and not the same as a Top 10 or even Top 15 opponent.

Don't respect my opinion, I know very little compared to guys like you lol. I'm just suprised how much ignorance there is with this guy.Comment

He was coming off a long lay-off, hadn't trained in preperation for the fight, was in a contract dispute with Sugar Ray Leonard and probably thought it would be a very easy win against a poor fighter. It can happen to anyone. No doubt a terrible loss, but certainly not without reason.

Gomez I've just never seen. My friend and I were talking shop a few months back and he brought up Gomez...called him "the best kept secret in the heavyweight division"...or something like that. So, I told him I'd be on the look out for him.
He said they were having all sorts of trouble getting him fights because of management disputes and promoters trying to get options and such. I really would like to see him fight though.Comment

Gomez: I want Klitschko!
Tuesday, December 12, 2006
On Friday Heavyweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez returns to the ring. His opponent at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany, is Daniel Frank of Brazil. Gomez and Frank already fought four years ago in Berlin, with Frank losing by TKO in the second round. First choice for Gomez' first fight under the promotional banner of Arena Box-Promotion was former cruiserweight champion Kelvin Davis, who pulled out.
"We've got big plans with Juan Carlos" says Ahmet Oener, head of Arena Box-Promotion. "I'm sure, he will fight for the heavyweight title in 2007."
Gomez' coach Phil Paolina told the fight writers at a press conference in Hamburg: "Juan is in good shape. He learned a few new tricks. In the next year he will be the heavyweight champion of the world."
Gomez told the press, "I never took *******! They've stolen me one year of my life. But on Friday everybody will see that I'm capable of big things, even after this long break. It's my goal to fight IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko for the title. With this fight I could earn the big money."
"I want wlad" who the **** doesnt? its become a cliche, wanting to fight a klitschko.
"i never took *******" yeah, they just found it by accident in ur blood. just cuz they found it in ur blood doesnt mean you took it, right gomez?Comment

gomez won tonight by 3rd round knockout
he showed how serious he is about fighting klitschko by weighing in at a career high 231 pounds, not a good sign from a guy who was his most effective at 190 poundsComment
-
So what? 231lbs for a guy the best part of 6'4 is hardly huge. Maybe 220 or so is his best, but there's no big issue here.Comment
