Too much political pull and bull**** behind the different boxing councils. Making it damn near impossible for the best to fight the best and we, the fans, ultimately end up losing because of it. It doesn't matter if a fighter is game enough to fight another champion and go title for title, in the end it's not up to the fighters anymore and that sucks ****.
Politics and boxing do not mix, at all. Politics is that one rare thing that doesn't mix well with pretty much any other combination you can think of.....it's pretty much like ass to mouth in that respect.Comment

Actually, the thing that is hurting boxing the most is...
1. Too many weight classes
2. Too many belts
There are like 20 weight classes and like 6 belts. They should have it the way it was in the 50s. 8 weight classes and one belt.
Before:
strawweight
bantamweight
featherweight
lightweight
welterweight
middleweight
light heavyweight
heavyweight
Now:
light minimumweight
jr. welterwieght
super featherweight
super flyweight
cruiserweight
It's got to stop. There are like 120 champions. Bring back down to eight and maybe boxing will mean something again.

1. Return the 15 Round Limit to World Championship contests.
2. Outlaw sanctioning bodies and either ban or fine any fighter who takes part in a WBC, WBA, IBF, or WBO title bout.
3. Standardize testing so if a fighter has his liscensed revoked in one state due to health reasons, he is not allowed to fight in any other state.
4. Do away with floresent (sp) gloves....from now on, it's either red, black, or brown.
5. Deduct a percentage of all fighters' purses and put it into a Universal Boxing Trust Fund or Account, like social security, so that when a fighter retires he'll always have some income coming in each month and so he'll have health insurance for the rest of his life.
6. Work out contracts with the Free Networks so everyone can catch a fight on the weekends, even if they don't have cable.
7. Gather a group of financial backers and institute boxing programs in various high schools and colleges so as to create a steady influx of potential superstars into the sport and give talented young amateurs a chance at getting a college education on a boxing scholarship. This will also create professional opportunities for them after school because they will already have a following and will have enough exposure to ensure good professional contracts should they decide to turn pro.Comment

Overtime! When there is a draw, you can go to a 13th round in which whoever wins this round, wins the fight. It would introduce a lot of drama to the sport, just imagine the kind of **** that would go on in a bonus round for the championship. They could get a short respite while the scores are tallied, then go back in there and pound each other with extra energy to see who wins the fight. It would be marvelous.Comment

I agree with all of these things, and the national boxing commission would be able to implement almost all of these. Nat Fleischer recently released an editorial in The Ring concerning the stigmatization in the media of boxing. I think that an ad campaign creating appeal and demystifying the sport would do wonders for its popularity and would encourage fighters to present themselves in a respectable fashion in and out of the ring.Comment
