Why Do You Think Merchant is so High on Pacquiao?

at the end of last last Saturday, it seems to me Merchants is saying Pacquiao is the best ever. I don't know. Why you think Merchant really likes Pac?

Well, perhaps because he's a big fan of entertaining crowd pleasers who are willing to take on anyone in their weight range. That is exactly the antithesis of Floyd Mayweather Jr, who Merchant has had an ongoing feud with for years. What you gotta understand about Merchant is that he's an old school Philadelphian who has his mind set already on what a fighter is supposed to be. He's into tough guy work ethic and fighting whoever is perceived to be better.

Pac brings excitement in to boxing.

He does seem a little biased though.

In one breath he talks about how exciting Pac is but when Taylor tries to do the same thing, says he needs more training (Can't remember exact words, something along those lines)

IMO Noone, and I mean noone has fought better comp in the last 2 years than Taylor. 2 fights with Hopkins (Most people's #1 p4p at the time) which he won on points (although I think Hop was kinda robbed) and fought to a draw with most people's number 2 p4p Wright.

The only diff is Pac was able to close the show. Well sorry Larry Taylor was unable to close the show against 2 of the best p4p fighters this decade.

because pacman fights like a buzzsaw and is the most exciting fighter in mma and boxing hands down...also because pacquiao is humble and not a braggart like floyd.

With Taylor, the primary issue is that he doesn't have the hammer that Pacquiao brings at a lower weight. Fight fans love knockouts, and Taylor hasn't been bringing them for 2 years now. I do see room for improvement in Taylor, no doubt. But it's not his fault that he can't measure up to Pacquiao right now, that's just not in the cards at this stage of his career.

i think he likes Pac because Pac isn't arrogant and is a nice fighter. Pac is humble, doesn't talk smack and he let his fists do the talking. Maybe Pac's personal life story got to him personally too. Those are my views. Pac isn't the only exciting fighter in boxing, but Merchant just likes him best.

Merchant will drop most boxers he's high on once they get older though. By drop I dont mean stop praising, I mean actively ridiculing them whenever possible I.E. Arturo Gatti.

I agree with you Pac hits harder p4p, at least it appears that way.

You can't discredit Taylor's power though. He did fight B-hop and Wright. Both aren't easy to knock out

I want to see Pac go up in Weight, to at least 135lbs. I want to see if his power carries over. I also want to see Pac vs JMM (If JMM is willing to go up in weight) and Pac vs MAB.

In a nutshell, Merchant's from Philly and Pacquiao has that kind of blood and gutts in him that makes Philly fighters stand out.....Merchant can relate to the type of fighter he is and recognizes it and appreciates it more so than, say, a Mayweather, who's more safety first.

so Bernard Hopkins and Zahir Raheem just moved to Philla eh?

Merchant says, Pac is combination of Ali, Bruce Lee, and Elvis and says he would bring peace in Middle East and boxing needs a Pacquiao in every division. That's a huge praise.
