    Is Jermain Taylor's power overrated?

Well last night his shots were impressive but aside from stumbling Ouma in the first round he didn't really hurt him. Jermain is clearly bigger than an actual middleweight and can easily and maybe needs to move up. Ouma though is no middleweight by any means and looked really small. What does this say of Taylor's power? I mean those were some brutal shots but they didn't seem to phase Ouma.

I thought someone would have touched on it with a thread by now. But I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

Nope... Ouma has an awesome chin and Wright and Hopkins have amazing defense and never get knocked down. I'm not really sure why he chose Ouma if he was looking to impress people with a knockout.

Overrated by HBO? Yes absolutely. But that is only because the network is down on their hands and knees praying that this is going to be their new Golden Boy. Overrated by the general media and fans? No. I think most people accurately judge Taylor as having a stiff and heavy punch that can knock people out over the course of a fight, but not the kind of slugger's power that will knock out guys with one big shot (at least not the top guys).

He has a very strong punch, but lacks the intangibles in it's delivery to pull off the one punch knockout.

I don't think so,and if so maybe only a little bit.The one-two-three combo Jermain landed would have put alot of guys on their ass,but Ouma kept coming. He deserves all the credit in the world for taking those shots.

I don't care how strong you punch. One punch will never be enough to take out Ouma, Hopkins, or Wright. Wladimir Klitschko could, but nobody below heavyweight.

Just because someone is labeled a strong puncher or a fighter with some power...that does not ALWAYS mean everyone is saying he could knock anyone out by touching them with one punch...

Taylor has punches that can hurt any fighter...no one said he could KO Ouma or anybody with a single effortless punch...

he is a young, big and strong middleweight who can hit hard...if you have a good chin like Ouma, Winky and Hopkins...you can take it and fight to the end...

if you don't have a good chin or you get hit with enough perfectly placed shots, you may go down...

                  simple as that...

Foreman, Tyson and Liston weren't always able to knock out even opponent's smaller than them...

                  sometimes it just doesn't happen...
