I am a veteran and did 1 tour in afgahn territory before my departure, and i applaud ALI for doing what he wanted to do, and not what hes forced to do, over an unjust war for an unjust cause.

What are all the facts involved with him not going to War/fighting for the Government/country?

I am not sure, so I will have to fact check, unless somebody corrects it which would be good, but I think:

      (1) He was actually 1 year over the draft limit age by the time they drafted him...this is what I heard anyway

      (2) He failed the test to get into the military 2-3 times, and never passed, they just passed him...which set off a red-alarm because it basically showed that the Government rigged the draft; they wanted Ali's name to support the War like Joe Louis had for WWII...the only difference, WWII was a legit war going in and there wasn't much debate about if there should be any protest.

      (3) Ali wouldn't have had to actually "Serve", in terms of fighting in battle...he was offered to do exhibition bouts and boost moral...the Government came to him and said this.

      (4) The War: should we have been there? maybe, maybe not...It was supposed to stop the spread of "Communism", so OK, fair enough...the only problem, it seems there was some other crap going on why we were there.

Remember, most often when a War is started or entered, it is for the benefit of Rich people...what are we protected? Rich people's money.
When people are "Drafted", I wouldn't be surprised if all the numbers called, are from blue-collar and poor-classes...they probably just go by area-code.

Even in WWII, the United States made out pretty well...You don't enter a war if you are going to lose more than you win.

      (5) Ali's refusal because of racisim in America...he wasn't sure why he was supposed to fight in a War against people he had never met and saw as a non-threat to him.

Remember, the "Government" works for us, not the other way around...it is "Our" job to question...especially if you are a citizen and the Government is sending your troops/your brothers and sisters off to war, you better demand the details...if you don't, you let down the "Idea" of "America" and you let down the troops that are willing to fight for the country.

Ali could have been right or wrong, it really doesn't matter, he had the right to refuse based on being an "American (U.S.A.)" alone.
