Foreman may smile and play the nice guy role and take it easy on an overmatch guy like Jimmy Ellis (the white one), but I doubt he took it easy at all here.
No. Foreman took the fight because it was high profile and he figured the one dimensional slugger with the porcelin chin would come right at him and shoot craps. Instead, Morrison ran all night, stunk up the joint, and beat Foreman the only way you can beat a slow as Christmas 40 year old loveable fat man with a big punch. Hit and Run.
It was a white, bleach-blonde, roided-up Jimmy Young, or might as well have been....but not as aggressive.
I doubt Foreman was scared but maybe he was just too slow at that age? But really, it is possible he was takin it easy on Tommy. I think.
I'm interested to hear who yall think would win...1974 Foreman vs 1991 Morrison?
That's a good question, that fight would've been a real slugfest, a 1974 Foreman, I think would beat a 1991 Morrison, don't get me wrong, Morrison would get some great shots in, but I think Foreman would win by late round TKO or decision.
Well, I'm not going to say Tommy couldn't put George on his ass, cause he could; but we know George will get up and battle back like he did against Lyle. Tommy got up and battled back against Williams, Hipp, Purity, Bentt, Lewis, and probably a few others; but by 1991 I presume you're talking about the pre-Mercer Morrison.
Then think of what would happen in regards to what happened to Morrison against Mercer, for I always saw Ray as kind of like a poor man's Foreman with a little more chin and a little less punch.
Maybe a little back and forth, to give Tommy the benefit of the doubt; but, in the end, Foreman by brutal TKO in or around the 3rd or 4th.

Hipp NEVER knocked Tommy down, dont worry thats a commen mistake
Tommy somewhat let Foreman off the hook, he would land his huge left over and over agian but would always back away after a few shots, there were times when Tommy could have tko'ed Foreman
You're right. He rocked him, broke his jaw, and was beating him; but he did not knock him down.
It's one of my favorite fights, too. Oh well, guess it's like that fish I caught that time that keeps getting bigger.
The Duke fought 7 rounds with a broken hand and a broken jaw actaully Tom Virgets his trainer said that it was Shattered and he still pulled out a spectacluar KO that right there says that Tommy is one tough SOB

Yeah, after that fight I really felt Tommy finally "got it" and was past the Mercrer loss. Oh well. He had the potential; but the Mercer fight, truth be known, ruined him or any potential he might have had. Everytime someone hit him with a big punch after that, it was like he had flashbacks or something.
Oh, there are other things I could nit-pick about; but the psychological damage of that loss was the main thing.
