Both are two of the greatest talents of the modern era.

But Calzaghe has a far better resume: Delaney, Eubank, Reid, Starie, Sheika, Woodhall, Veit x 2, Brewer, Mitchell, Lacy.

Man, he was an EXCELLENT prospect. That was a do-or-die kind of fight, whoever won was going on to big things.. both said they were going to go to war. The loser would never be the same.

Joe almost had him out in the first, and it was all over in five. Incredible. And it was 50/50 beforehand.

            Let's talk about it.
Better opposition? I'm not sure about that! Yes he fought good fighters but one or two were past their best i.e. Kevin Kelley, Wilfredo Vazquez, and the likes of Paul Ingle, Wayne McCullogh, Cesar Soto, Vuyani Bungu, and Augie Sanchez are not in the same class as Barrera.
Barrera was undoubtedly the biggest fight of Hamed's career and when he lost that he eventually disappeared, after a lacklustre performance against Manuel Calvo.
That said, i do believe that Hamed had all the potential to become a great fighter, but he seriously neglected his work and it caught up with him. IMO after the Barrera fight i think that Hamed himself doubted his own ability, and that may sound silly as he seemed one of the most confident fighters in history, but he didn't seem in a hurry to avenge the one and only loss on his career record. IMO Barrera may very well have beaten Hamed at any stage in their careers, but i think that the version of Hamed that beat Steve Robinson could have theoretically tested any Featherweight in boxing history.

In doesn't make sense to compare Calzaghe's career with that of Hamed's. Calzaghe can, and will go on to achieve more and Hamed is finished.

                  Mentioning Delaney is a joke.
                  Shieka was vastly overrated.
Woodhall wasnt real world class, niether was Starie.
Mitchel and Brewer were tough and experienced but finished.
Eubank fought only twice in 2 years, and took the fight at 10 days niotice.

If he was a phoney he would have been KTFO in the first.
He beat Steve Robinson for the WBO title in 1995, Tom Johnson for the IBF title in 97, the WBA Champion, Wilfredo Vasquez in 98, and finally Cesar Soto, the WBC champ in 99.
Also look at Naseem’s numbers and longevity. He accumulated over sixteen title fight victories and was never stopped in his career. And his sole defeat is to a man who is widely regarded as one of the three or four greatest fighters in Mexican history.
Naseem didn’t knock out the typical stiff, but he regularly knocked out world class opponents. He was the first to stop Steve Robinson, Tom "Boom Boom" Johnson, and Vayani Bungu.

                  Phoney? No
                  Arrogant little twat? Absoluty.

                    Thank you.

I love the revisionist history how Hamed never did anything but act like a fool and then got beat by MAB. Hamed beat the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO champions while at featherweight. He dominated a long-reigning champion in Tom Johnson (seen as the top 126 lb fighter in the world at that point) and won his titles by dethroning champs and not winning vacant titles, which is more than you can say for Calzaghe.

Calzaghe actually shows skill in the ring, which is more than you can say for hamed.Hamed was a showboater and he only shone because boxers of that era were not very good, when he eventually came up against GREAT boxers,he was destroyed.
