manfredo is just there for massive exposure in the states , everybody knows that.
ppl outside of the internet boxing circle have never heard of mikkel kessler so that fight brings nothing to calzaghes name stateside.
ppl should realise this is just a gap filler until jermain taylor next summer.
cmon el tem you cant deny that the taylor fight is a million times bigger than the kessler fight

This is a classic example of career mismanagment. Calzaghe is clearly too much too soon for Manfredo, and if Calzaghe puts on other one of his brilliant performances, Manfredo's prospects for the future will be badly damaged. Calzaghe, on the other hand, should be looking for better opponents and bigger paychecks, Manfredo is just a waste of his time.

Manfredo is playing the role of "opponent" he knows this and must have accepted it. He must be thinking there are no bigger money fights out there for him now or that he can hang with Calzaghe. That said, he is definately not ready, but if he can do as well as Bika then he has a shot and maybe Calzaghe underestimates him on fight night and gets a surprise?

Was Joey Spina supposed to be the fight that got Manfredo ready for Calzaghe or was it Scott Pemberton? Manfredo should have fought Lacy or Green before fighting Calzaghe...

Peter Manfredo had serious problems with Sergio Mora, a man who doesn't have half of Joe Calzaghe's talent or skill. It is going to take a monumental screw up by Calzaghe for Manfredo to win. That is why this fight is just plain silly.

Total mismatch the contender ppl are moving manfredo along 2 quick their hyping all this performances up he beat PEmperton and spina so what? pemberton was over the hill wayyy before manfredo got 2 him Lacy killed Pemperton, and spina was untested, manfrado should have faced one off the top few guys green, lacy, andrade and co before testing himself vs in my mind the number one SMW on the planet and one off the P4P top 10s it is suicide, their all talk now the contender ppl but when manfrado gets in their with calzaghe and feels the speed, power and pressure time and time again i think he will be wishing he was facing Alfonso Gonez again,

Thats not true. Kessler versus Calzaghe would be a huge fight in Europe. Maybe Kessler hasn't had a lot of exposure in the States, but if they do that fight in Europe it is a big pay day for both of them.

To comment on whether or not Manfredo should be fighting Calzaghe, it is a decent opponent for Calzaghe, and it makes sense for him to fight Manfredo. I really can't blame him considering the exposure he gets and the minimal risk. Manfredo is a good fighter, and should probably win a few rounds against Calzaghe and go the distance, but I don't see it being a very competitive fight. Manfredo maybe wins 2 or 3 rounds.

I don't want this fight to happen.

Imagine if (when) Calzaghe ko's 'The Contender runner up' what it means for the Contender. It will rubbish it as a program.

I also fear (hope) Calzaghe will hurt 'The Contender runner up' permanently. And this could mean the end of the show.

Good points, Ricky. Although I personally want this fight to happen as I would like to see Calzaghe build a legacy as 'The Yankee Retirer'. There's no doubt that he has retired Jeff 'Limited' Lacy to a career burger-flipping at MacDonalds. I mean, even Carl 'The Cobra' Froch is calling out Lacy now. I can only predict that Peter Manfredo will be returning to America in the cargo hold, zipped up with an American flag d****d over the body bag. At least that'll be worth the PPV fee.
