There's a couple of pretty interesting things that he did that I give him credit for......Weapons use and forms perhaps.

But we're talking actual Martial Arts.

This is like a guy who's never worked on a car his entire life....but studies to be a mechanic and becomes pretty knowledgeable. How is anyone going to know this outside of reading his books if he never works on a car?

It's ridiculous. I think if you're going to call him a Guru then leave it at that. Lets not talk about how deadly he is because that just makes me laugh.
Lee isn't really all that well know for his use of weapons he used the nunchuka more for films. That's not to say he wasn't skilled but his main objective was to be the best street fighter he could be not the traditional chinese opera type martial artist that use outlandish weapons and set moves .

You make an excellent point, Knives. I'd like to expand on it by reminding people of the old adage that no matter how ________ you are (whatever that happens to be), there is someone who is more _________.

In other words, I'm willing to bet that at any given moment, there are any number of little old asian dudes that have more knoweledge and ability in one finger than Bruce would have ever had.

People like Masaaki Hatsumi (Ninjutsu), Jhoon Rhee (Tae Kwon Do), Boneco (Capoeira), Morihei Uyeshiba (Aikido), Hee Il Cho (Tae Kwon Do), and many others immediately come to mind. And these are just the people we KNOW about. Imagine how many buddhist monks, Shaolin or otherwise there must be out there who do NOTHING but meditate on Buddha's teachings and try to perfect their martial arts abilities as a way to achieve enlightenment.

Bruce was by no means, even close to being the greatest martial artist there ever was.

          But that's just my opinion.

Yes but they did only one art
Bruce was doing things that no one in China had ever seen. He may not have been the best at any one art or the best fighter ever but he was far ahead of his time and the first to cross train in martial arts.

most martial arts are designed for killing and war. They arent the same thing as the toned down rule-enforced MMA styles.

Martial arts is a craft a skill a way of life
you do not have to fight in order to be a martial artist you just need to know how to fight
Bruce Lee was first trained in wing chun which has rules against fighting just for sport . Martial arts is almost like a religion so if your master says you can't fight for sport YOU DON'T. If he would have fought it would have been very much a dishonor to himself and eveyone who came before him . He did break some rules by teaching the arts outside of china but there were others at the time doing the same he just took the brunt of the hate because he was the most public about it .
