    Can Toney Actually Lose Weight?

I know everyone rips on Toney because he comes in so heavy for his fights, but has anyone asked whether or not he can still cut weight? Let's look at the facts, he is close to 40 years of age and has suffered 2 near career ending injuries. First a rupture of an achilles tendon and then a severe tear in his left arm. What people don't know is that the damage to his arm was so extreme that the doctors had to replace muscle tissue with that of a cadaver. He actually has tissue from a dead body to keep his arm from falling apart. Doctors were skeptical if he would even punch with his left arm again. Keeping this in mind, just how intense could he train during camp without risking injury? I remember Roach saying how they opted out of a final sparring session leading into the Peter fight because they were happy they made it that far without sustaining any injuries. Can Toney still come in better shape or has time caught up with him?

time and injuries catching up with him has very little to do with cutting weight.....he simply needs to make a diet change to do that (moderate excercise and a very strict diet can make anyone lose a gut).

however the injuries are certainly stopping him from perfoming at his best (punch output, agility, etc.)
The toney that beat up holyfield would definitely have a belt.

I also feel the big shots he took to the side and back of the head against peter (combined with the many years of gym wars) may soon take their toll also, in a far worse way....unfortunately.

Sure he can. He can lose 20 pounds the healthy way from now until fight night easily. Worst case scenerio I imagine hes 240 right now. 220 would be easy to get to in 6 weeks.

It's hard to lose weight when you do no roadwork and eat alot. Plus Toney is just one of those guys who has to work hard keep weight down. While it isnt easy to change habits, especially at his age, it can be done.

I agree, he did a little slimmer and less sluggish in that fight then he did in the Rahman fight. But Dynamite has a point, how much longer can Toney go on?

Being overweight in bodybuilding will cost you the contest. Being overweight in boxing can cost you your life. Toney says **** like this to make excuses for his lack of discipline and work ethic. Toney's lucky that Rahman and Peter were not in better shape themselves to capitalize on his lardyness.
