Wlad has already held the WBO belt. There is not much intrigue in going after it again. When he held the WBO belt no one considered him a true champion. The WBC and WBA belt's have been around the longest and have been held simultaneously by true champions such as Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson. I believe that is the same group of fighter's Wlad would like to associate himself with.
Klitschko: "I Want Valuev or Maskaev Next"

I've got to hand to Wlad....he's talking like a champion. If the other three men have hair one on their collective nuts, they'll take him up on his offer, regardless of what their promoters say.The Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, were in attendance to watch Brian Minto destroy Axel Schulz at the Gerry-Weber stadium in Halle, western Germany, on Saturday night. Do you think that Klitschko will earn the "Ring" title even if he doesn't unify? The only way I think Klitshcko will be recognized as the 'real' champ is if he partially unifies the titles. ie IBF-WBCI don't see Briggs as less respected than Valuev or Maskaev. Valuev is perceived as a joke, whereas Maskaev is widely viewed as a loss waiting to happen (I dare you to find someone who is willing to bet he finishes 2007 as champ!).
Eventually, Wlad will be accepted as champ with or without unification. He needs only to keep knocking out the best available opponents, which he's done this year.
James Toney will be up for Wlad if he can beat Peter and Maskaev, which is hardly a stretch of the imagination.Comment

Not that it matters much, but Halle is in the East and was part of the DDR.The Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, were in attendance to watch Brian Minto destroy Axel Schulz at the Gerry-Weber stadium in Halle, western Germany, on Saturday night. [details]Comment

I have no idea about Ring, but I was referring only to the growing general sentiment of who the champ is. Klitschko is making a case for himself, and no one else is at the moment.Comment

Boxers themselves have little say in the matter. The gangsters who run boxing choose the fights...like Don King.

More often than not this is true; but it is true because most boxers, like most people on this planet, are far more comfortable with their life being handed to them rather than taking the lead and asserting themselves.Comment

Easier said than done. Boxing is a thoroughly crooked business run by gangsters. Fixed fights, crooked refs and judges, fighters taking dives, druggings, even murders - it's been going on for a long time, and it's getting worse instead of better.
