i remember a while ago a fight was gonna be shown on HBO, and one of the fighters requested that MERCHANT wasnt there for the fight because hes insulting. SO HBO turned down the fight so they could keep Merchant with the crew. or something like that...

I agree, Merhchant is probably more entertaining than Ali G. I think Merchant's comments about boxing are slightly more insightful than the comments Ali G would make. However, Ali G's interview style would be more congenial to the fighters.
