I don't think Valero has ever met a big puncher-- one truly worthy of the label.
He fell in the third to Mosquera and Mosquera has had only half of his wins by stoppages, although he has the distinction of having dropped Yodsanan Nanthachai three times on the way to winning by decision (he was also dropped once).
Before Mosquera he fought Tranzancos who like Mosquera had only about half of his wins by stoppages.
Perhaps the best puncher that Valero has faced to this day is Whyber Garcia who had racked up 12 kos in 17 wins. Garcia stopped the durable Bernard Harris who went the distance with the likes of Leonard Dorin, Joel Casamayor, Paul Spadafora, Sharmba Mitchel and held Gairy St. Clair to a draw. In a 46-fight career (22 Ws-22Ls-2Ds) only Garcia and Carlos Hernandez were able to put Harris away.
Valero, a lefty, wings his lethal punches all the way from right field and leaves himself open for a pre-emptive strike. A quick handed opponent who carries power can put him in trouble pretty early, pretty quickly and pretty bad.
The only problem that I can foresee that Pacquiao may have facing Valero is the fact that Pacquiao has not faced too many lefties and may have problems. I can't recall the last time he did, if he ever did. BUt with that said, it must be added that Pacquiao is much too shifty for Valero who moves around the ring flat-footed and sometimes lunges when he becomes impatient.
I'll take the match as a highly possible Pacquiao early win; but shall give Valero a remote puncher's chance.Last edited by grayfist; 11-21-2006, 08:24 PM.Comment
