I heard Warren has been losing money over the last 2 years, i think this is a last throw of the dice for him. In the current finacial climate this is a real risk and very few casual fans will buy the channel. It could pay off it might not though.

What us Brits really need is the HBO feed to that channel.

That is all I'm waiting for.

I am surprised by all the positive feedback here. A dedicated boxing channel is great in theory but look at the bigger picture

Warren has constantly slammed terrestrial television for not picking up the fights yet makes a move to further fragment the television coverage of boxing, just as a terrestrial channel in channel 5 starts showing an interest in the sport.

So now as a British boxing fan you have to look to C5 (fine thats free), Sky sports (may be box office if they secure a big fight) Primetime and now Box Nation, and basically it boils down to whose stable the fighter you want to see is in

In concept a dedicated boxing channel sounds great, but you're gonna have to pay for it at 120 quid per year, plus 15+ quid for anything that takes your fancy on primetime or sky box office, plus a sky subscription on top of that, it hardly represents value when you add it all together.... for the annual fee of box nation you could attend a couple of warrens shows and have a bit of spending money besides

Would rather keep it on sky and pay for the odd pay per view than an extra £10 a month on top of the sports subscription. Sky often show some title fights from America after there UK broadcast.

A dedicated boxing channel is just the right thing to reduce the number of viewers and cut out the number of people who take up watching the sport.

I got into boxing by watching a random fight on the BBC years ago, i had never taken any intrested in boxing but i really enjoyed it and started to follow the sport there after, i know a lot of fans that started watching the sport in the mid 00's when ITV where showing big fights again.

Imo C5 could have the best model. they own a free to air TV station that can show boxing but they also own a PPV channel so they could in theory put on decent domestic cards on the free to air station build up the profile of the fighter and then put them on there PPV when they get a big fight but on the same night have a free to air card that can be used to help bring in fans. The only problem is they are currently stuck with just Tyson Fury, Warren should have tried to move to C5 and do the above model imo.

This is my thoughts exactly. Even hardcore boxing fans are considering not subscribing. I can see this ending badly for Warren. Hope not though.

With a dedicated boxing channel, it seems we will be getting such things as:

UK broadcast of all the Sauerland Promotions events

Coverage of amateur boxing (Not everyone will care that much about it, but it's still presumably good for the sport of boxing that it has coverage.)

There should be no problem showing 3 or 4 hours of an event, so quite possibly good coverage of undercards.

                  Buncey's Boxing Hour back!!

How likely is it that a free channel would provide all that stuff? And give Warren the $ he needs to put on however many shows a year?

£10 a month, if they are providing a lot of live boxing, isn't a bad deal imo. As for split coverage, well Sky need some competition because they really aren't that good.

What's the betting Haye signs with Warren if he fights again, with Matchroom on Sky, Hennessey on 5, and Warren Promotions being the only 'pay' channel, Haye won't be happy on free to air....
