  • Dave ''boy'' McCauley

I'm a bit young to have seen him, but have any of you guys seen him in action, or remember any of his fights, he's from my hometown, and i've heard a lot about him, but never seen the flyweight in action before.

From the mists of time I seem to remember him, didn't he have two classic world title fights against the same guy losing both of them when doing so well? I think in the second one the champ stopped him in the very late rounds and just shook his head as if to say "what a man, gave me the fight of a lifetime".

      Lol

Yeah I remember Dave he was in some good fights, the ones I remember the most are Joe Kelly cos he was at my gym for a while and McAuley roughed him up, later on they sparred with each other when Kelly went over to Ireland, he came back & said Dave was one fussy, difficult guy always moaning about the size of the sparring gloves etc. etc. but Baby Jake Matlala was a good win cos he was a tough little fighter and beat a lot of our guys in that period but McCauley beat him up as well, I have his first fight with Fidel Bassa and it's a real war, one of those forgotten about gems, in some of his fights just looks wise not fighting style he resembles a mini Barry McGuigan.

It sounds like he had some good fights, and was very tough and durable, i might try and get some of those fights from somewhere.

I knew who you were talking about but I kept thinking Rodolfo Blanco so your not alone! He had two good fights with Blanco as well, I think he was knocked down 4 or 5 times in the first fight with Blanco but still got the decision then went to the guys backyard and was beaten on a close decision but I remember it seemed like this was payback for McAuley for the robbery in their first match.
Fights to look out for would be vs. Matlala, Bassa 1 & 2 & Blanco 1 & 2.

Since ************** shut down there's not many sources I can find for fights. You know, when you look at the repeats they show on tv, and have to pay fees for, the ammount of quality sport(especially fights) in the archives that could be shown for **** all it boggles the mind!

                Lol

I know what you mean, ITV and BBC should do something like ESPN are doing now by showing all the old classic fights, BBC especially have a good amount of boxing from the past they could show from the 50's onwards but I guess if the bosses of those channels aren't interested in boxing then we've got virtually no chance of anything like that coming about.
