Of course, pacman is well-known in phillipines, when you ask any Phillipino if they know of pacman, they will smile in recognition....
Pacman is equivalent to the Frank bruno of Britain.

The big difference is that Manny is a Pound for Pound Champion which Bruno has never been.

yeah your right its both a source of strength and much burden, but that's the very reason why PAC fight the way he fights, he now do not fight just for himself and his family but he fights for country and countrymen...

History tells us that Pac is not the only fighter burdened with such an obligation. In the Philippine setting: Pancho Villa was a national hero; Dado Marino, in his own little way was too! Then there was Ceferino Garcia,the inventor of the notorious "Bolo Punch" and who can arguably be the best that the archipelago ever produced, bar none( though, I won't resent anyone who picks Villa). Garcia fought the best boxing history had to offer, including, Hank Armstrong, whom many consider the best ever; Villa had only 7 losses in over a hundred fights! (Marino was a perenial contender, but never got a break)

Elorde's record does not warrant the kind of respect that the two Filipino champions mentioned above demand; Manny's current record does, but then the story has not ended for Manny; no, not yet. Those who can recall Navarrete know what I mean.

The kind of adoration for Pac that exists in the Philippines now, reminds Old Timers of the same type of treatment that Elorde and those before him had.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with any of those that I can see, except that I think objectivity,now, or at any other time, would prevent so much disappointment later.

I agree with you on all points, and about the the comment on pac's presidency i think it was an exageration but with PACs popularity and the tested strength of "popularity" in Philippine politics, i say if he runs for presidency he "may" have a chance and this is not a joke...

I feel the same way buddy, the people really deserve better, but i am only emphasizing that in Philippine politics, popularity plays a major role, like what happened last election FPJ almost won just on popularity, if he had a better political machine and some more political smarts he could have won...

the "may" only counts for popularity, you still need to have the other major factors like political party, an agenda and all that political crap, and besides i think there's a law requiring the president to be at least 40 or 50 years old, so don't fear my friend that "may" will not happen for a long time...
