  • Audley Harrison

Below is a piece written by Johnny Nelson on Audley Harrison:

"I've been a great knocker of Audley, but he has improved since making the move to the States".

"I think he can mix it with the top 10 heavyweights now because the division is currently very weak, but, the question with him is, will he want that? Has he got the bottle to do it"?

"To me Audley has got half the ingredients needed; he has the boxing skills but lacks the mental strength".

"Now I think he needs to fight someone they know about in America, someone who is a big name but is just past their best, somebody like a Rid**** Bowe or a Michael Moorer would be perfect".

"However, it appears Audley is slowly but surely looking for the big one, he's looking to take the road to stardom the easy way".

    -------------------

Personally, I get really irritated by Audrey Harrison and his "gravy train".

He got the BBC contract for over £1,000,000 of TV licsence payers money after promising us that he'd be fighting for the British title by his 5th fight... But then he took the piss out of us by fighting a bouncer, security guard, dentist, and florist etc.

He also said that by the end of 2002' he'd be where Lennox Lewis was at... Then it turned into the end of 2003'... end of 2004' and so on.

He's been a pro for coming up 5yrs and has had 18 pro fights yet he's not even challenged for the British title yet?

The question I ask is, Does he actually want to fight? Does he actually want to be a professional boxer? Coz' he sure as hell doesn't seem to act like it.

He seems to spend more time doing promotions, and celebrity events rather than actually getting in the ring.

And from the pace of his career and the opposition he's been in with... I don't think he wants to fight!

Agree totally - Audley doesnt seem to have the fighting "heart" needed.

I bet he would say "No mas" during the introductions against someone like Klit.

Nice bet you have there by the way-even money on PBF, who should/will outclass Gatti.

I just did a little comparrison on boxrec between Audley Harrison and Lennox Lewis's careers.

For the length of time Audley Harrison has been a pro he's 18-0-0 (13ko's) having not yet fought for the British title or any named fighter.

          • Lennox Lewis became the European heavyweight champion after 13 months of being a pro.
(it was his 14th pro fight).
          • By this same stage of Audley Harrisons career Lennox Lewis was 25-0-0 (22ko's). Lewis had won and defended the WBC heavweight championship 3 times.
(To put the time lapse in perspective, - We all know that preparing, training, and organizing a heavyweight championship fight takes a lot of time, Lennox had done it 3 times by this stage of Harrisons career).

I didn't intend to start a thread just bashing Audley Harrison... But these statistics do suggest that maybe I'm not far from the truth when I suspect Audley Harrison isn't really serious about fighting.

I think it's probably right about his heart not being quite in it, but he's got the skills to prove us all wrong, time will tell

Harrison never gonna be heavy weight champ

Harrison is an average heavy weight. If he was 20 he would have a chance of winning the title, but now he is in his 30's and although the heavy wieghts are the poorest i have ever seen they will still be good enough to beat him.

archie moore did it, but aud is no archie moore.

i was behind him for a while, now i just cringe in embarassment.
