N. Dev was just a guy in the field of 71 KG fighters. There are guys who hit harder and three are guys who are quicker. Dev was well schooled as his father was a boxer and at mid range, and as such he wisely uses his speed and guile to beat the other guy at mid range to the punch. He was sneaky in that regard. His upside was more maxed out than his opponents, but he is not a great pro prospect. You hyped him a bit too much.

Anyhow, re Nishant Dev's performance at the Olympics, he did well to beat the Pan American Games finalist in his first bout but was unlucky to draw Verde in the second who he lost to via MD (4-1 split). In fact, the first round was awarded 4-1 in Dev's favour whereas the second and third rounds were awarded 3-2 & 5-0 respectively to Verde. Therefore, Dev unanimously won the first round, Verde unanimously won the third round and the second round (which ultimately decided the contest) was given to Verde by the narrowest of margins.

I didn't see the fight so can't comment but a lot of people on Twitter (including Mexicans) thought that Verde was lucky to get the victory.

Fair enough that's your opinion but I don't see how you can write off Nishant Dev's entire CAREER at the age of 23yo? Bear in mind that he's already a World Amateur Championships Bronze medallist (losing to the eventual Gold medallist via SD) and just lost a close fight to Marco Verde (Olympic Silver medallist) which a lot of people thought he WON. Therefore, he only loses to the best of the best via extremely CLOSE decisions and 5 of his 7 losses to date have been via SD/MD which means that at least one or more judges thought he won the fight.

Also, I wouldn't read too much into an amateur boxer's record given that bouts only last 3 rounds. For example, Dev's first opponent at the Olympics was a Pan American Games finalist and 7 of his 11 losses have also come via SD/MD. He also has one walk off which means he didn't even fight.

PS: Lmao @ Verde suddenly being 'nothing special' after beating Dev. Apparently, he's the next big thing out of Mexico and the fact that Dev was able to hang with him (and BEAT him at the beginning of their careers) speaks volumes.
