It's a fact that under Edwards' program, England has twice as many boxers qualified for the 2008 Olympics as they had for the 1996, 2000, and 2004 combined. It is also a fact that these fighters, who weren't producing results up untill a few years ago, have been trained as a team, in Sheffield under Edwards, full time for the past couple of years. 4 training sessions, 4 days a week, and then long weekends. I've seen some of these guys out at international competitions over the past few years, and it is really incredible, the progress they've made. Absolutely astounding. No one could have even dreamed of an English squad like that four years ago, when Khan was the lone qualifier for Athens.
"It was only 3 lbs" - geez, you don't know what you're talking about do you? It was the final 3 lbs that he couldn't lose! He told me he walks around at 73kg, that is 13kg or 28lbs! Additionaly, he has to weigh in the morning of every fight, so that means he has to dry out and be able to fight 5 times. The pro's do it once for a fight, and they have 24 hours to regain weight. Frankie could have as little as two hours till fight time, and he wouldn't be able to rehydrate because he'd have to make weight again for his next fight.
Like I said, I've seen the kid with my own eyes, and his days of getting below 60kg were over a long time ago. Just not possible.
