You talk as if a state = a european country.

People should remember that 98% of the world's population are NOT Fat Yanks. Geographical mass does not equal population.

While I agree with the theme to an extent - exposure via US media, etc. - I do have to laugh at people on here who seem to have the mindset (not necessarily anyone in this thread) that "a fight hasn't taken place in the states = the fight doesn't count". Remember, The Ring's FOTY last year took place in France.

yeah bbc is shown in almost ever country in the world, i would think it is shown in more countrys than HBO or showtime.

if you want recognition in america, go to america. If you want european recognition, fight europe.

i dont agree that fighters should have to go to the US, sure it was the mecca of boxing (about 30 years ago) but it ain't anymore

In spite of the dollar's decline vs. the Euro, fighters--with a very few exceptions, e.g., Chris John), Sirodenko and that Thai whose name I can neither pronounce nor remember easily-- still crave for U.S. (not "america" because North America includes Canada and Mexico) exposure because US TV and promoters pay more.

It's not only in boxing that athletes seek US contracts. Chinese basketball players don't waste time lacing up their shoes to hop on a plane for the chance to play in the NBA, and so has Africans, Latinos and Europeans.

No pro Track and Field athlete would pass up the chance to appear on US turf while Filipino and Taiwanese billiard players ply their trade in US tourneys. Japanese names are often seen in baseball rosters as well. All for the money and, yes, fame (BBC may have the wider global reach, but its promotions do not have HBO's and Showtime's glitz).

Off the top of my head, the few times that migration may have gone the other way is in soccer (I say,"for the moment," while casting an eye on the importation of the Brit star recently) which is not at all that huge in the US but THE BIG THING in most parts of the world.

Tennisters have to go to three continents: Europe (Wimbledon and French Open), Asia (Australian Open) and of course the US for both legacy and money.

Despite what the LAY boxing fans say, America is STILL the Mecca of Boxing. Yes, Some Countries offer bigger venues to host Boxing events, but that does not factor in the obvious. The MONETARY gain is evident and the EXPOSURE (on a Globalscale) will eclipse that of any rival country.

Plain and simple, America rules Boxing

This is an embarrassment. We're just one country. Take a vacation and go see the world. We're only about 4% of the world's population
