Is it really in decline? Every week you get a fight card on espn, twice a month on hbo, twice on showtime, fights every night on Classic, and occasional and decent cards on Versus. There's so much boxing on TV it's hard to watch it all. But there are so many media today that it allows people to have more specialized interests, so of course not everybody is going to watch all this

but as far as reaching a worldwide audience it wouldn't make a difference. i agree it would make a difference as far as the american audience is concerned but not the rest of the world. the european audience would be unaffected as would the marginal asian audience (from my experience of south asian tv they haven't been interested in boxing since tyson)

Doesnt Matter where fights are held. It makes no difference.
Some fighters still fight for pride.
Truly Great fighters should fight Globally.

yes, and US TV has a big part in Calzaghe-Kessler which is not even taking part in the states. i see what you mean, but i really don't think the fight has to physically take place in america for it to get worldwide exposure. its the 21st century damnit!
also i don't know what its like in other non-american countries, but coverage of big american shows doesn't always happen. its not like a show is automatically screened because its being carried by hbo. although it has been getting better now that setanta are competing with sky to get the big fights.

Do HBO/showtime reach as far as the BBC does? I didn't think so - if boxing was brought back to the Beeb you'd get coverage across europe, India, the middle east, pretty much everywhere. But audley harrison ruined the chances of that every happening.

Big American fights are available in every state and often shown in many euro countries, and elsewhere.
If you want world wide recognition, you have to go to the states...
