  • Best Boxers by Country

This may have been done before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes.

Who is the best pound-for-pound boxer from their respective country?

i.e. The best boxer from [insert country] is [insert boxer].

Lets keep this to national origin rather than race/ethnicity. For example, you may think Willie Pep and Tony Zale are the best Italian and Polish boxers respectively, but you'll have to consider them American boxers as they were born in the U.S.

Some countries will be easy, others not so much...

    I'll get it started.

Nigeria --- **** Tiger --- the man would have been a terror in any era.

Sweden --- Ingemar Johansson --- not a great heavyweight champ, but the only one to come out of Sweden. Maybe the only world champ in any weight class from Sweden (correct me if I'm wrong)

Pick a country or two and have at it.

I dig it. Any thoughts on Hector Camacho for Puerto Rico? Primo Carnera for Italy?

I'm glad to hear you've given Michalczewski a look. The guy was legit, and I agree he's the best from Poland (with all due respect to Tomasz Adamek).

Wlad ahead of Vitali, eh? I know Wlad has the better resume, but for me Vitali was the better, tougher fighter. When it is all said and done, I think Usyk will be the top guy from Ukraine, but we shall see.

Ottke over Schmelling --- There's definitely something to be said for Ottke's unblemished record, but I gotta go Schmelling. This opinion is admittedly based on a single win, but he is the only guy to beat a prime Joe Louis, and he beat him soundly at that.

              Canada- Langford

I'll take Schmelling over Ottke, but then again I'd take almost anyone over Ottke. You can say he never lost, but that was the most rigged, protected record in modern history. He jabbed, ran, and was gifted wins. He had the ref protect him, he made vegas look like a bastion of righteousness and fairness.

Nova Scotia is a real tossup between the tar baby and the toy tiger. Co-rulers.

Macho was an exceptional talent of course but his resume falls short of those named, Primo's a league below Loi and Benvenuti.

Just curious because I had a really hard time picking between them, how did you end on Walcott over Gans?
