Same reason he lost to Dawson. Younger, multi-dimensional boxers that out worked him. AS high IQ as Hopkins had, he struggled when you made him think TOO much. That said, you could make a case for him winning the 2nd fight, but I feel like had he known Taylor had those kind of of stamina problems, I think he would have pressed the fight more and drowned him in the later rounds.Comment

He underestimated robert allen in the rematch and was getting outboxed. he quit first chance he got.
calzaghe broke him mentally. and when calzaghe dropped him with a body punch, hopkins tried to quit and call it a low blow.
hoping for a DQ
he faked an injury against dawson when he realized dawson is faster then him. and quit (again)
When hopkins fell out of the ring against smith (because of a tap) he refused to continue fighting.
He had 20 seconds to get back in the ring but refused because he was scared.
And later demanded a no contest. what an abject coward.
to scared to rematch.
You know what they call a guy who quits like this all the time?
