As it is, it is admittedly a difficult argument to make, but one I think can merit some consideration.
      Well Stated.

I consider a lot of factors for the P4P status.

Did they fight the best at their best?

Did they take fights knowing they would be the underdog?

Did they fight to win or fight to survive?

Did they fight in multiple weight classes?

        Did they duck anyone?

Did they fight clean, both in terms of PED use and not being a dirty fighter?

How would their respective skills carry over into higher or lower weight classes?

There are other factors to consider, but you get the idea.

My A list of candidates would include Langford, Robinson, Pep, Charles, Moore, Duran, Pacquiao. These are the ones anyone could make a strong argument for, and not be wrong.

Over 100 fighters could lay claim to being the overall P4P GOAT, but boring fighters like Charles can never be ye old GOAT, lads. Now Pep, Walker, Greb and Marciano certainly spring to mind as four fine candidates.

I prefer the individual categories rankings for GOAT. We know that Ez heads no individual categories, whereas each of the other lads above heads at least one. Ez was not as tough as Marciano, nor as clever as Pep, nor as Wiley as Greb, nor as persistent as Walker. And he was two shades slower than Tunney who was his own size. Ez was a great fighter, just never at the highest pinnacle historically. His speed was average. He is in the top 100, not the top 10.

            - -First off, the official p4p discussion of today kicks off with Robinson and has only expanded since into modern day fanboyism serving no purpose near the original concept.

The ancients have always had an understanding of p4p without defining that terminology, ie David and Goliath and Tom Sayers and Bobby Fitz as three examples.

We know Manny holds all the Ring p4p records by a landslide, so absent that everything becomes a Battle Royale in free fall.

Let the blood and bile letting begin...

Combining these two together it becomes clear that Floyd Mayweather Jr is the greatest P4P fighter of all time.
