    I think of it as a greater total than the sum total of all the fighter's attributes. It is the way a fighter holds together, and applies mental strength and strategy to enforce his actions on the opponent. But any great fighter would have that quality.
    Duran is clearly an extraordinary ring general, Louis is anything but.


    Quarry was obviously a great ring general... except for when he wasn't. Then he was terrible.

        Like Hagler, he often pursued poor strategy. And sometimes he had no strategy at all. He had fabulous footwork and his killer combinations almost never let him down, so with full respect for the adage "if it's not broke, don't fix it", Louis put himself in hairier predicaments than he needed to. Sometimes his solution was to just do more of the same. Again, crazy enough to work. But definitely excludes him from consideration as a meaningful ring general.
