  • What if Mike Tyson.....?

Lot of talk about Tyson coming back and doing charity exhibitions at 53 years old. Dude looks phenomenal on the pads in his workouts. That of course is no indicator of how he would do in today's heavyweight landscape.

But what if Tyson did come back and win a piece of the heavyweight title? How would his place in history change?

I'm not saying this is going to happen. Only asking about your opinion IF it did happen.

    - -I'd beat him to the title first and then cash out my retirement against him.

Easy work. Surprised I never thought about it!

Despite this being one of the weakest HW divisions in history, a win over AJ, Fury, Wilder or any other potential title holder would certainly elevate Tyson’s place in history. I always felt Mike lost his edge due to mental and emotional struggles. I think he could have ripped through the division if he was able to maintain his ferocity and was still the same fighter he was during the eighties under Cus.

I suspect he'd still be hell to deal with for a round or two. And plenty would fall with those 6 minutes or less or shortly after if they lasted that long.

Vs top 10 caliber guys, promising fringe contenders & top prospects I think it'd be a much tougher go for Mike. He could probably surprise some mfers doe.

If Mike had the same mental fortitude as a Joe Louis, Holmes or Wlad Klitschko he would have to be favored as one of if not the greatest ever. But the fact remains he didn't.

If he somehow trapped a belt today I think it would propel him to the top 5 the same as it did Foreman. But until it happens, it neither here nor there. In my opinion.

I agree, Mike Tyson’s career will always be the story of “what could have been”. In my opinion all this comeback buzz will be limited to an exhibition here and there. I half jokingly suggested some celebrity exhibition matches, but honestly, they could be very lucrative for him.

I read an article that made sense form my own personal experience. Its not the desire, speed or punching power itself that leaves in many of theses cases, it the resistance to getting punched.

A couple of years ago I decided to go back to the gym with intentions of having another fight. Mind you I hadn't trained in years. It didn't take to many rounds sparring to realize, at least at that moment, that my time was done and my limitations were met.

Oh yeah I highly doubt Mike fights a legit fight again, but I do think if he did & got a renewed passion & focus for it kinda like the Foreman comeback he could still do some damage with a Foreman-like trail of opponents.

I suspect if he did win a belt & became the oldest HW title holder it'd benefit & change his legacy greatly not unlike Foreman's was upon his successful late age comeback.

Agreed 100%. He's a world class fighter and a different breed the 99.9% of us. But I think it would factor in. Jmo.
