Let's say if he beats Beterbiev and/or Bivol
There is nothing crazy about asking this question...Your getting pushback because somehow, someway, People determined that Dawson losing to Ward was terminal. Mind you...I guarantee very few, if any of these people actually analyzed that fight. A very talented trainer put out a video breaking down that fight on Youtube some time ago.

The video showed how good and how methodical Ward operated in that fight. Like Max Schmelling did when he caught Louis dropping a hand, Ward made sure
he knew exactly where Dawson's back hand was in relation to his jaw at all times. He tricked Dawson into thinking the hand protected the jaw against the left, and when Dawson bought it, Ward was ready.

But all those hopes and dreams turned to Dawson lacking because he lost to a truly great fighter...never mind how good Dawson was before that, and that the standards for the HOF are not the same as being an ATG.

I would ask: Is Dawson a better fighter than Gatti? My own opinion is that he was at least as good and Gatti made it in. Lol.

That sounds like an interesting video... Dawson ran into a great fighter in Ward despite being on the cusp of greatness himself. I would also say Stevenson was a pretty good fighter during that time.

Some can say he was never the same thereafter, but even then, he had already laid a good body of work at that point

Yes he had laid down a good body of work. People forget that at one time he was considered a contender for pound for pound best. I always regretted not bookmarking that video...

I remember many years ago, there was a boxing trainer that use to post here that also made videos. He would start threads and include his videos in the OP. Forgot his name, is this who you're referring too?

I agree with the general sentiment. Very good resume, but misses out on Hall of Fame.

Arturo Gatti being in the Hall of Fame has permanently altered the standards for getting in.

Fighters that wouldn't even be considered now have to get a closer look.

Yes...Barry? Something. He had a vid out analyzing that fight.

Yes. Definitely. The tape was on his Youtube channel, or one of them.
