How was his grip? That's the most important factor.

      He'd been dropped by Cooper.

He won both fights against Liston under mysterious circumstances - the rematch being an out-right work.

He was matched against Cleveland Williams for God knows what reason - even before being shot Williams was a gatekeeper at best.

He looked pathetic in trying to dispatch of hopeless Karl Mildenberger - after predicting an early KO, no less. They were wearing 6 oz. gloves!

So yeah, the Chuvalo fight is sketch.

But then Chuvalo "stopped" Quarry under bizarre circumstances. That was super weird. Probably his handlers had their connections, too.
RE Quarry: Who else made that mistake (taking a knee after getting up)? -- I remember someone having no problem getting up off the floor after a KD then deciding it was better to take the count on one knee only to have the ref wave him off, under a strange interpretation of the rule that any fighter who regains his feet after a KD and then "falls" down again is automatically DQed.

Do you have any idea what I am remembering? LOL

I wonder if Quarry lost the count, or was actually dazed. From most accounts Chavalo was close to having the fight waved off because of his eye and would likely have suffered a TKO.

It was a high grip, pard, high and hard. Beardwise incomparable.

He doesn't look dazed. He could have been off-balance. Trying to make use additional time is smart. That was an especially severe application of the rule.
