There was centrally, at the end, a new mastery of temperament and pacing that allowed Duran to extend his career.

Of course he was always a smart fighter, but early on he fought with fury, and later on, against the bigger opponents, he slowed down and held a kind of temperament mastery over his fights, (the kind you felt Ali held,) sometimes even during a loss. E.g Hagler.

As smart as a fighter he was, he still grew even wiser as his skills faded.

Pushing the fantasy a little further -- if you put the older Duran's temperament and pacing together with his early skills you come out with a Benny Leonard.
    No. Not at all.

You're a good guy, but you say stuff without research.

Leonard couldn't hold Duran's jockstrap. He was a more mobile antecedent to Joe Louis than his legend makes him out to be.

Rocky Kansas and Joe Dundee gave him fits. That's where Arcel witnessed the craft that he'd apply when making Duran the most complete fighter ever.

If anything, Leonard had a bigger punch than Duran, and potentially had taken a better punch square on the chin.

Walcott and Moore improved their skill with time, and crafted a bigger punch. Even if they were more athletic further into their youth, it's not a sure bet. It's also not ckear that Walcott suffered much physical deterioration in the years leadin up to his break through success. Liston, who cane shortly after, was also am impressive physical specimen despite his advanced age. And recent decades have shown Walcott and Liston really weren't that old at all. The era might've been the worst ever for the division - outside of Jack Johnson's era. There was a sudden dearth of talent.

Any way, Moore and Walcott simply got lucky. Coal becomes diamonds if it sticks at it long enough, and has the right conditions.
Good fighters used to get worn out young... long before ever reaching their prime - men much more talented: Conn, McGovern, McLarmin. Walcott and Moore couldn't hold their jockstraps. That's a lot of the magic behind Moore, Walcott and Marciano's success - their maturity. But that maturity was also a product of them not wasting their youth.

Actually, Marciano passed on making a comeback because he knew he lacked what it would take to beat Ingo. He actually had pushed his body too far, afterall. He just didn't make the mistake of showcasing that to the world.

He doesn't have a clue either. He has been studying at Rusty's writing salon at the Queensbree school of journalism.

Being the most complete fighter of all time, the older Rock looked much the same as the younger one.

You really are a ***** one.

Seeing as how Boxing really isn't your thing, have you considered other potential hobbies?

A quilting club should really suit you.
