    Ali would beat Chamberlain (SP?), Wilt was very strong though.

      Wilt was perhaps the greatest physcial specimen in the history of sports imo. He would have been great in any sport he chose I think, he had speed, power, strength, quickness,etc you name it. However with that said, Ali was the trained Heavyweight champion of the world, Wilt was a basketball player, saying Wilt could beat Ali in a fight is as ridiculous as saying Ali could beat him in basketball.

        Wilt was more than a Jordan. He was an all-state HS track star, competing in high jump, 400M, and shotput, not a fatboy Shaq. Cus D'amato took Wilt under his tutelage and trained him for the fight. Cus wouldn't have wasted his time if Wilt had no talent. Cus said he was not training Wilt to be a boxer, but to beat one man in the ring with size, strength, reach, and a set up.

        Shame the fight never came off. Different versions of why, but basically Wilt said it boiled down to money and a shaky contract. It would have been great spectacle, and guaranteed Wilt is strong enough and coordinated enough to KO anyone if he connected. Ali would have his hands full early as this was no Cleveland Williams or Brian London.
        I would pick both Cleveland Williams and Brian London to beat Wilt Chamberlain with relative ease, if Wilt had only trained for a few months.

          Oh, and one more thing. That article has no quotes from either athlete or from Bob Arum, no reference to any actual contract document that was seen by anybody, so I am a bit skeptical about that article. If it was true why wouldn't they at least try to get Bob Arum to confirm it? I don't know how much truth there is to this.

            - -Oopsie poopsie, teacher, teacher I declare, I see everyone's underwear!

            Ali fans have not the clothing to hide their gross deficiencies. Wilt emasculated the myth of Ali on a national ABC broadcast hosted by Howie Cosell as the public signing of the historical fight.

            Ali refused to sign the contract and the rest fanboy fictionary...Only in boxing folks!

              Let’s see...Ali was the greatest of all heavyweight champions. Gold medal winner at the Olympic. Three time hwt champion. Defeated some of the hardest punchers in boxing history. Ali was a boxing pedigree. A professional fighter.

              Wilt was a basketball player. Decades of experience running up and down a court throwing a ball in a basket. No knowledge of how to roll with a punch, slipping and countering, blocking nor parrying etc. Why? He was a basketball player.

              Wilt has zero chance. First right hand Ali lands ends the fight. Wilt won’t see it coming. I would think Ali would carry Wilt a few rounds to give the fans a bit of a show but any time he wants the bout is over.

              Each of the major sports have specific skill sets. You cannot pull a basketball player from the courts, put him in the ring for his first pro fight vs the greatest ever heavyweight and expect anything else but disaster.

                - -U limiting Wilt as just a basketball player is U limitation, not Wilt.

                70 something Cus told Ali how Frazier was gonna whoop him for the first fight, and when Ali challenged him to a spar, within 30 seconds Cus had inflicted a cut on Ali that halted the demonstration.

                All on film just like Ali refusing to sign the ABC broadcast prearranged contract.

                What grade U in now?

                My sympathies!

                  More meaningless drivel. Think hard....

                  Ali = Greatest hwt champion
                  Wilt = Greatest basketball player

                  Ali has no chance on the court.

                  Wilt has no chance in the ring. He does not know how to fight.
