    The best of the worst

    Just for fun.

Now and then, everyone of us find it hard to fall asleep at night.
Though, there are some boxing vids that can make The Sandman pay a visit to our homes.

One fight that definitely had me snoring was the WBC cruiserweight title encounter between Carlos DeLeon and Johnny Nelson in 1990. Click anywhere on the vid and try to find an exciting exchange of punches (you won’t) ...

I’ve forgotten plenty of fights I’ve watched through the years. But this one gave me an unforgettable evening three decades ago – because it was such a bore. As I still remember it, I list it as one of the greatest non-great fights.

No discredit to either fighter, though, both men of steel. Everybody has their ups and downs.

Though maybe not the most boring, and not exactly history, the Easter Barthelemy fight from earlier this year was pretty bad

I can name a fight which had only one action moment--when Hercules Weaver KO'd Tate in the 15th for the heavyweight championship. Except for the KO moment, that fight would Rival Fury/Klit for pathetic lack of action.

Certainly the most boring Heavyweight championship in memory is Fury\Klit, by Baal, because it had no redeeming moment, just a redeeming bell.

Dwight Mahammad Qawi vs Ossie Ocassio.
Maybe the worst fight ever! Terrible really, really bad! 1989 1990 Rare a rated fighter is so obviously just there to pick up a check. Ocassio doesn't take a dive, Just doesn't even try at all to win. So much so the announcer DR Freddy Pacheco points out that he feels a fighter that (doesn't even try to win ) should be not be payed in full and the sanctioning body should look into the matter. He's refuting to Ossie Ocasico dreadful performance. Shortly after he done fuming the ring announcer announces the (winner Ossie Ocassio ). That make this fight the worst of the worst.

I'd say most of Hopkins 160 title defenses were pretty awful. Dull and dirty.

Ruiz vs. Rahman was dreadful, but a title was on the line so I suffered through it.

              - -Ali vs evangelista was a top ten snoozer.

Ali did nada first half of Young and Lyle, and then just above nothing afterwards. Jimmy saved his show by an all time clowning of the hapless Ali to go down a legend.

In the end, both he and Ron cheated by officiating, boxings never ending saga.

(Yes, says Pacheco, but he “scored every round for Qawi and at one point even suggested the referee might disqualify Ocasio for not fighting” Wiki.)

Wiki: “Dwight Muhammad Qawi will remain the International Boxing Federation's No. 1-ranked cruiserweight, despite a 10-round majority-decision loss in Las Vegas, Nev., last week,” I.B.F. President Robert W. Lee said yesterday.
Well, we soon learned that Lee was a bigger disgrace than this decision.

Very interesting encounter. A top ten in the category best of the worst.

Never watched that entire fight but read about it in Nelson's autobiography, apparently some local guys spent weeks with de Leon, buying him drinks, hooking him up with women, just trying to make sure he was as out of shape and unprepared as possible. It worked but Nelson just froze mentally when he got in there. After all the hate mail he received from locals who lost money betting on him calling him a bum, Ingle offered £200 each to any of them who wanted to spar with him, dozens turned up but the crowd drifted away quickly after seeing Nelson easily handle the first guy who stepped in there.
