I am going to make this simple. "The Old Lefthook is correct. Joe Louis was Mike Jacobs (golden goose) manager and promoter, who controlled all the fights and fighters. He picked the opponents, who were all under contract to him. In other words they're all stablemates. In fact Max Schmeling easily beat Louis, and was scheduled to fight Braddock for the title. Uncle Mike decided to threw in Louis to fight Jimmy Braddock for the title, bypassing Schmeling. A complete set up. Now Louis is the black heavyweight Champion, and becomes a shining light for the masses of colored folk's and million dollar gates. Uncle Mike would not allow Schemling to fight Louis unless he knows he will lose or not getting a pay day. It was all prearranged (fixed) for all concerned, letting Joe become America's Heavyweight Champion of the World. Joe Louis did not have a rock jaw. Mike Jacobs owned all the Champions in New York, or you don't fight. Louis and Armstrong drew the biggest gates. Billy Conn was beating Louis silly, and was reminded to take the count and get another pay day. Jack Dempsey, said it all, "they don't want Louis to lose." Jack Johnson was the Greatest! Now go easy on me fellows. Peace.
