  • Thoughts on Michael Nunn?

He was released from prison last month after serving 15 years. Apparently found religion and became a vegetarian while incarcerated. https://3kingsboxing.com/michael-nunn-prison-release/

James Toney had his number in the ring but Michael was pretty formidable in my opinion. Had wins over Starling, Curry, Roldan, Barkley, Kalambay.

I was watching his fight with Toney about ten days ago. Real good fighter. I felt like he was out working Toney but Toney stayed in there and got to him. I’ve always heard of Nunn, he’s a little before my time. I’m going to catch up on him

He's gonna have trouble when it comes time to be washed in the blood of the lamb.

Hadn't heard he got out of prision. Hope he stays outta trouble.

He was a bad mfer back in the day although like Floyd later in his career was seen as boring & too safety first & without the sh^t talking so didn't garner as much attention as he probably deserved. He was a top p4p guy for years. The Toney L was pretty shocking. Even as a Michigan guy who was a big Toney fan at the time I didn't think Toney had much of a chance to win that fight. Seems like he lingered lower on the p4p list during his 168 run but I might be misremembering that. Really good boxer doe.

Good to hear he's being released from prison. Maybe he can get involved with training boxers, he surely has a lot of knowledge he can pass along to the next generations.

            - -Had the talent to be an all time great, but alas, that was the nose candy era, and he paid in spades much more painfully than most.

Sigh. That's my take as well. He acted like an arse in court which prompted the judge to give no quarter.

Im with you on this one. Very talented fighter... had a command of footwork and fundamentals from an early age. Toney caught him real good. he was winning against Toney and Toney was always a dangerous counter puncher.

I believe if he had developed a bit more he could have been a good fight for Jones. Nunn did so many things well that his technical skills would be a threat to Jones freakish natural ability.

Wow its been a while. I remember him coming up. The Goosen clan would rent out the Reseda Country Club and stage his fights in the parking lot. Allowing stars from near by Hollywood to come out and support. Think his first big name fight was Alex Ramos, Silver medalist @ MW in Olympics. He won every rd easy. He was untouchable at the time. Very good fighter. Could handle himself pretty good outside of the ring as well. The jolly jaw breaker. Remember hearing about he broke 5 guys jaws in a bar fight. Pure boxer in the ring. Stalling went up to (2) divisions and got beat bad on HBO. The good old days. He had some big wins, before and after Tony who was big under dog at the time. Nunn winning on points gassed and I think Tony took him out in the 11rd or 12 rd If I remember correctly. Think he moved up to LH @ the end. second to nunn...
