If Bowe had fought and beat Lennox in the pros would he have been the GOAT?

If one HW totally dominated the 90s era he'd be the GOAT. That's not how it went down though. Circumstances didn't even allow one guy a shot at that, except for Holyfield who fought all of them but he was either unfit in some fights or past prime in others.

Neither Bowe or Lewis were the GOAT.

GOAT was either Ali or Louis. Ali’s supreme toughness gets him the nod. He was a fancy dan boxer who was also a FIGHTER.

--- Christmas Day here, so a great day to remember Joe Louis for what he did for boxing nationally and internationally, but more importantly what he did to expand the national and international consciousness of humanity in his quietly humble blunt force craftsmanship.

Merry Christmas Joe with another Happy New Year of the fondest memories and respect that any fighter worth his salt would vie for.

I remember in 1992 thinking that Bowe might be the greatest Heavyweight I'd ever seen after his fight with Holyfield. He really did have such a skill set that he would have bee tough for anybody.

Unfortunately he also loved to eat and didn't bother enough with defense. In a one off with that 1992 version of Bowe he's got a shot against anyone on one night. But for overall body of work it DOES matter that he wasn't able to sustain it.

The greatest heavyweight has great defense on top of great offense, he was too one-dimensional.

I know he looked good against Evander, who was undersized and still made it a great fight. To be honest I had the opposite reaction after that fight, I thought Holyfield was one of the greatest heavyweights I had ever seen after that. Because Holyfield would have won that fight if he used the strategy he used in the rematch. Instead he brawled.

For Bowe, his lack of defense can never be brushed aside and it would show up most against other tall guys who would set him up with jabs. Like Golota. Andrew Golota destroyed him with his doubling and even tripling up on jabs, both to the head and the body. With that, nearly every combination would find home on Bowe.

Would have been the same against Lewis(And especially Vitali later). Skilled big men with jabs would be his downfall even if he layed off the burgers.

Completely agree. I rewatched the fights with Golota, I think he would have always been a problem for Bowe even in 1992. Lewis would have taken Bowe apart.

These are valid points. He ate too much leather to have ever been an all time great.
