  • Maybe Harry Greb?

Check out this clip at 2:17 - is the fighter throwing and missing the right hand haymaker possibly Harry Greb?

For years fight collectors (such as Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Compton) have been searching high and low for even the tiniest clip of actual fight footage of Greb - but all we have is that training video before the Walker fight, where he can be seen doing some weird shadow boxing.

Though it's impossible to tell from the ultra-short clip, I think it's highly unlikely that Tunney's opponent at 2:17 is Greb. If that was the case, it would be a huge sensation!

99.9999% its not him, since he was shorter then Tunney, his hair is different and even the movement (from the training clips), but somewhere on Youtube there is a highlights video of Tunney that shows a fighter that is very similar to Greb.

Because of quality of the video though its difficult to say.

        I'd recognize him anywhere.

Pretty sure that's Georges Carpentier loading up on his signature overhand right.

Yea! Damn! - the punch appears just round the 4 minute mark in the clip you posted. Thanks

How about this clip - at (around) 1.14 -- or is that just Carpentier again, with a drop card mistakenly calling it Greb?

It looks very much like Dempsey, in that latest clip (at 1:14).

Edit: I was looking at the fighters just before the drop card, where I'm sure the opponent is Dempsey… but now I'm thinking, that you probably meant after the drop card. I can't tell who that is - but Greb was much smaller (about 4") than Tunney, and I think these two look about equal in size. So, again, I doubt very much this can be Greb.

Also, if this is indeed him, I'm sure word would be out, that fight footage of Greb actually exists. It would be a pretty big thing!

You would think - no doubt the up-loaders sometimes have no idea what they are looking at - there was that one Louis-Sharkey fight where the up-loader thought Louis was Dempsey. - You are correct the fight right before the drop card is definitively Dempsey, but the fighter after the drop card looks a little too wild to be Dempsey; more likely Carpentier. I need to look at the Tunney-Carpentier fight again closely and see if I can find that moment.
